To send a prerecorded video to YouTube through Restream, first connect the YouTube channel in Restream’s Channels area and authorise the account that owns it. Then create a Pre-recorded livestream, choose a video or playlist, select YouTube as a destination, and schedule the event; this is separate from creating a Custom RTMP connection.

You do not need to paste a YouTube stream URL or key to schedule a prerecorded file through that workflow. Those details belong to a different connection path, which can be useful when attaching a previously created YouTube event or sending an encoder output.

Choose the connection that matches the job

The phrase “YouTube RTMP destination” can describe more than one task. If your goal is to schedule a file in Restream and have it play on your YouTube channel, the usual route is Restream’s native YouTube channel connection followed by its Pre-recorded livestream workflow. You authorise the channel, choose the file or playlist, and schedule it in Restream.

Custom RTMP is a separate option. It connects an existing event using the event’s stream URL and key, rather than authorising YouTube as a native Restream channel. Restream’s Help Center says Custom RTMP requires a paid Restream plan; it also notes that some API-dependent functions, including Restream Chat and Analytics, are not available for custom channels. Check Restream’s current documentation and your account before relying on a particular feature.

There is also an encoder workflow. If a live source is coming from streaming software, you can create an Encoder | RTMP stream in Restream and enter Restream’s URL and key into that software. That arrangement describes a live encoder input. It is not the documented way to schedule a prerecorded file for automatic playback.

For most readers following this guide, the first row is the one to use. If you are trying to work around channel permissions or a particular event configuration, pause to identify that need before choosing a different connection type. The steps below cover the native channel route first and distinguish the event-based alternatives where they matter.

Add YouTube from Restream Channels

Sign in to Restream and open Channels. Choose Add New, then choose YouTube from the available destinations. The labels in your account may change over time, so use Restream’s current interface if the wording or placement differs.

This action starts a channel connection, not a Custom RTMP setup. You are telling Restream which YouTube channel it may send a stream to. You are not entering the address of YouTube’s ingestion server or a stream key into a form.

Before authorising, make a note of the channel name you expect to connect. A Google account can have access to more than one YouTube channel, and choosing the wrong account or channel can make the destination appear to be missing later. If you manage several channels for a devotional network, local news loop, or small business, verify the displayed channel identity rather than assuming the first option is correct.

Restream’s guide to connecting YouTube is relevant if the destination cannot go live because the channel has a restriction or live streaming is not enabled. Keep connection problems distinct from YouTube eligibility problems: a successful Restream authorisation does not itself switch on YouTube live streaming.

Authorise the account that owns the channel

When Google’s authorisation screen appears, choose the Google account that owns the YouTube channel. Restream’s guidance says the channel owner must connect it; a manager or editor account is not sufficient for this connection flow. If you are working for someone else, ask the owner to complete the authorisation or confirm that the correct ownership account is being used.

Review the account and permission prompt before approving it. Once you return to Restream, check that the intended channel is listed and enabled as a destination. If a different channel appears, remove or correct that connection rather than proceeding with a scheduled broadcast to the wrong audience.

YouTube live streaming must also be enabled on the channel. Restream’s YouTube guide reports that first-time activation can require phone verification and a 24-hour wait before streaming. Treat that as a prerequisite to check early, not a last-minute fix on the day of a planned broadcast. YouTube’s own live-streaming guidance is the primary place to verify current eligibility and activation requirements.

If you have not used live streaming before, allow time for any verification step and test the channel before announcing a date. A channel can be connected successfully in Restream while still being unable to go live on YouTube. The distinction matters particularly if an event is meant to start unattended: a scheduled workflow cannot remove an unresolved platform restriction.

Create a Pre-recorded livestream

Once the destination is connected, start a new Pre-recorded livestream in Restream. Do not choose an Encoder | RTMP stream merely because the article title uses “RTMP”. The prerecorded workflow is designed around selecting media and arranging its scheduled playback; the encoder workflow expects an incoming live output from software.

Restream documents the prerecorded setup as a choice between Video and Playlist. Choose Video for a single file. Choose Playlist when the event should play a sequence of files, and check the order before continuing. A playlist can be useful for a longer devotional programme or a set of local information clips, but it also means you need to think through what the viewer will see after each item ends.

The relevant Restream instructions are in its Help Center scheduling guide. Use the current screen as the final authority for the available options in your account. The guide says a scheduled video event goes live automatically at the appointed time, so the operator does not have to start an external encoder at that moment. That does not mean you can skip reviewing the event, destination, and media selection beforehand.

If instead you already created a YouTube event and need Restream to use that specific event, follow the event-selection instructions in Restream’s existing YouTube event guide. Restream describes selecting the event in its RTMP setup; it also documents Custom RTMP as an alternative that uses the event URL and key. Those are alternatives for an existing event, not extra steps required for the standard prerecorded-file schedule.

Choose a video or playlist carefully

Select the file or playlist you intend to broadcast. Before scheduling, confirm the programme itself: the opening image and sound, the order of playlist items, and whether the file reaches a natural end or is intended to continue into another item. Restream’s documented workflow handles media selection and scheduling; it does not establish that every file will meet your channel’s editorial, rights, or audience needs.

For a single-file event, make sure you have selected the final export rather than a draft. If you have more than one version, distinguish them with clear filenames before uploading. For a playlist, review the full sequence in the interface and look for duplicate, outdated, or incorrectly ordered items. These simple checks are easier to do before the event is scheduled than while viewers are watching.

Think about how the file will look when played as a stream. A prerecorded programme may contain a title card, a long quiet opening, or an ending that leaves a blank screen. Consider those transitions in the context of a live audience and the duration you expect. If your actual goal is to keep a set of clips cycling throughout the day rather than schedule one event, that is a different format; the guide to scheduled video changes on an always-on YouTube stream discusses a related but distinct approach.

Rights and channel policy remain your responsibility. The fact that a file can be selected in a scheduling interface does not establish that you have permission to broadcast its music or imagery, or that YouTube will approve every stream. Check the current official YouTube rules for your content and channel. Do not treat a successful upload or authorisation as a guarantee about claims, restrictions, or monetisation.

Set the date, time, and destinations

Enter the event details and select the intended schedule. Check the calendar date, local time, and time zone displayed by the account before saving. If you are coordinating a broadcast from India for viewers elsewhere, record the time in both your local schedule and the audience-facing announcement so the event is not mistaken for a different hour.

Select YouTube among the destinations for the event. A YouTube channel connection in Restream is not the same as selecting it for every stream: verify that the destination is enabled in this event’s settings. If multiple channels are connected, select only the intended one unless you have a clear reason to broadcast to more than one destination.

Where Restream offers YouTube event or RTMP-related controls for the connected channel, use the event dropdown only when you need to attach a previously created YouTube event. The existing-event guide describes that route. If you are following the ordinary prerecorded workflow, do not go looking for a YouTube RTMP URL or key simply because of the wording “RTMP destination”.

The correct connection also depends on your source. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain entering a server URL and stream key into encoder software. That is useful when you are broadcasting a live encoder output, but it is not the same as scheduling a Restream video file. If you are deciding between a file event and a manually operated source, ask whether the content is already finished and whether you need to intervene during transmission.

If an existing YouTube event must be used, check that you have selected the right event and that its own start settings match your plan. The research documentation cannot confirm how every account’s event-level controls are configured. Verify the actual event and schedule in your own Restream and YouTube dashboards rather than assuming that an old event will behave like a new prerecorded schedule.

Review before you schedule

Use a short preflight check before confirming the event. Verify the connected channel, selected file or playlist, event title and description, date and time, and YouTube destination. Then check any thumbnail or other event details available in the workflow. A misspelled title is easy to fix before scheduling and less easy once an audience is already looking for the stream.

Pay particular attention to the relationship between the file and the schedule. If the event is meant to begin at a precise time, ensure that the selected media and destination belong to that event rather than a prior draft. If you are using a playlist, confirm its order again after making any last-minute edits. Keep a copy of the final file and event details in your own records so that another person can help check them if needed.

For a scheduled prerecorded video or playlist, Restream says the event starts automatically at the scheduled time. You do not need to sit at a computer and launch an encoder merely to trigger that file workflow. Still, automatic start is not a promise that a broadcast will satisfy every platform requirement or that a mistaken schedule will correct itself. Confirm YouTube live eligibility, channel ownership, and the event settings in advance.

If what you need is an always-on channel rather than a single scheduled programme, a one-off prerecorded event may not fit. For example, a station that cycles several hours of material each day needs a playback and continuity plan, not just a calendar entry. A guide to looping multiple videos with FFmpeg and Nginx RTMP covers a different self-managed route; consider it only if you specifically want to operate that kind of continuous setup.

Once the event is scheduled, note where to find it in Restream and YouTube, and who will check the first minutes of playback if the programme is important. The workflow’s automatic start removes the need to manually initiate an encoder, but it does not remove the value of a human check for the correct title, picture, and sound. For recurring broadcasts, record the steps that worked so the next schedule is less dependent on memory.

If a stream key is rejected in an encoder workflow, troubleshoot that separately from native authorisation; this guide on YouTube stream-key rejection concerns the key-based path. It is not a reason to add a Custom RTMP destination to a routine prerecorded schedule.

FAQ

Do I need to enter a YouTube RTMP URL and key to schedule a prerecorded file?

No. For the standard Restream flow, connect YouTube under Channels, then create a Pre-recorded livestream and select the video or playlist, schedule, and destination. A URL and key are relevant to separate encoder or Custom RTMP workflows.

Is native YouTube authorisation the same as Custom RTMP?

No. Native authorisation connects the YouTube channel through the account that owns it. Custom RTMP is an alternate way to connect an existing event with its stream URL and key, and Restream says that feature requires a paid plan.

Does the scheduled video start automatically?

Restream’s scheduling guidance says the video event goes live automatically at the scheduled time. You should still confirm that YouTube live streaming is enabled and that the correct media, channel, and event schedule are selected.

What if I have already created the YouTube event?

In Restream’s existing-event workflow, edit the connected YouTube channel in RTMP setup and select the event from the dropdown. Restream also documents Custom RTMP using the event’s URL and key, but that is a distinct alternative rather than a required step for every prerecorded stream.
