How to Change YouTube Channel Membership Prices for Indian Viewers

Use YouTube Studio to edit membership prices, understand review limits, and check the current India price table before announcing a change.

You change YouTube channel membership prices from YouTube Studio on a computer, under Earn → Memberships. Open Edit in the “Step 1: Add levels and perks” box, change the relevant level, follow the prompts, and publish it for review.

The change is not an instant repricing for everyone. YouTube reviews membership levels and perks before they go live, allows price adjustments for new members only once in a 12-month period, and keeps existing members at the price they paid when they joined.

Check the channel before editing

Start by confirming that channel memberships are available on the channel. If the Memberships tab is missing, the issue may be eligibility rather than a hidden pricing control. Check the current requirements and policy guidance on YouTube's channel memberships activation page before changing other settings.

YouTube Studio should be opened on a computer for this workflow. Sign in to the Google account that manages the channel, then switch to the correct channel if the account controls more than one. It is easy to edit the wrong channel when several devotional, music, local-language or business channels use the same Google account.

A newly accepted YouTube Partner Program channel may not show the feature immediately. YouTube says that activation can take up to two days while eligibility is reviewed. That delay is different from the review of membership levels and perks, so do not treat a missing tab as evidence that a price edit is waiting to be approved.

Before you open the editor, write down the levels you currently offer, their prices, and the perks attached to each one. Also note which members are already paying at each level. This gives you a record of the old arrangement when the new schedule appears, and helps prevent an accidental change to a perk that existing members expect.

Open membership settings in YouTube Studio

Use this route:

  1. Open YouTube Studio on a computer and select the channel you want to manage.
  2. In the left-hand menu, choose Earn.
  3. Open Memberships.
  4. In Step 1: Add levels and perks, choose Edit.

The wording can change slightly as YouTube updates Studio, but the useful landmarks are Earn, Memberships, and the first step for adding levels and perks. Do not begin in the public channel page or in the ordinary video monetisation settings. Those areas do not provide the membership-level editor.

If you are setting up memberships for the first time, YouTube may ask you to accept the Commerce Product Module and complete the on-screen activation steps. Read the terms shown for your channel rather than assuming that an existing monetisation setting covers this separate feature.

Once the editor opens, allow time to inspect each level. A price is connected to a level, and that level is connected to the perks members receive. Changing one without checking the other can leave you with a price that no longer matches the work you intend to provide.

For example, a small bhajan channel might offer early access to recordings at one level and add members-only live prayer sessions at a higher level. A local news channel might offer community posts at the first level and a monthly members-only briefing at the next. The useful question is not simply “what price should I choose?” but “what can I deliver repeatedly at this price?”

Edit the levels and perks carefully

Inside the editor, select the level whose price or benefits need changing. Review the name, description, price and perks together. Keep the promise understandable to someone seeing the membership panel for the first time on a mobile phone.

YouTube allows up to six membership levels, and each level can contain one to five perks. You do not need to use the maximum. YouTube's guidance suggests considering one to three levels initially, particularly when you are still learning how much work each perk creates.

Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower-priced levels. This matters when you design the ladder. If the first level includes members-only posts and the second level includes a private monthly stream, a member at the second level receives both sets of benefits. The higher price therefore needs to account for the complete bundle, not only the additional perk.

A practical arrangement might look like this:

Level What the member receives Operational question
Entry level A small number of members-only posts or badges Can you maintain the promised posts during busy weeks?
Middle level The entry benefits plus an additional recurring benefit Can you deliver the extra benefit without neglecting public uploads?
Higher level All lower-level perks plus a more involved benefit Is the extra preparation worth doing for the number of members likely to use it?

The table is a planning model, not a recommendation to use three levels. A channel with one clear, reliable benefit may be easier to manage than a channel with six complicated promises. That is especially relevant for an always-on channel, where the membership offer is only one part of the workload. If your public stream also needs careful audio handling, the guide to keeping audio in sync on a continuous YouTube live stream covers a separate reliability problem rather than a membership setting.

Describe perks in terms a viewer can verify. “Members-only monthly devotional discussion” is clearer than “exclusive spiritual content”. “One members-only local update each week” sets a more useful expectation than “premium news access”. Avoid promising personal replies, unlimited requests or live availability unless you have decided how those promises will be handled when membership grows.

If the channel uses several Indian languages, write the level descriptions so viewers know which language applies to each perk. You can also review how to add Indian-language membership perks to a YouTube channel before finalising the wording. The price change and the perk language are reviewed together, so a clear offer reduces confusion when YouTube checks the submission.

Submit the change for review

After editing the levels and perks, continue through the on-screen steps and check the summary before publishing. YouTube's instruction is: “Once complete, click Publish.” That action sends the changes into YouTube's review process; it should not be read as a promise that the new arrangement is already visible to every viewer.

YouTube says the review of membership levels and perks takes about a day. Treat that as a review period rather than a precise appointment. Do not announce a firm launch time to members until the updated level is visible in the channel's membership presentation.

During the review, keep a note of the intended change. Record the old level name, old price, new level name, new price, and the date you submitted it. This is useful if a member asks what changed, and it helps distinguish a pending review from a billing display that differs by viewer or platform.

After publication, inspect the public membership join flow yourself if it is available to you. Check the level names, perk descriptions and displayed price. If possible, view the presentation on both a computer and a phone, because the signup platform can affect the price a viewer sees. Do not use your own account as proof that every Indian viewer will see exactly the same amount.

If the edit is rejected or does not appear, read the message in Studio and compare the offer with YouTube's membership policies. Avoid repeatedly submitting the same change without checking the reason. A repeated submission can make it harder to tell which version is being reviewed.

Understand levels, perks and inherited benefits

The level structure is cumulative. A member who joins a higher-priced level receives the perks attached to that level and the perks from the lower levels beneath it. This is why a seemingly small edit can affect the total work required from you.

Suppose the first level promises one members-only post each week and the second level promises a members-only stream each month. The second-level member is not buying only the monthly stream. They are also receiving the first-level post benefit. If you later raise the second-level price, review whether the full bundle is still described accurately.

The practical limit is six levels, with one to five perks per level. These limits are platform rules, not evidence that a larger ladder will earn more. YouTube's recommendation to begin with one to three levels is also guidance, not a guarantee about revenue or conversion.

For a small channel, fewer levels can make administration easier. You can answer member questions more consistently, schedule fewer exclusive items and see which benefits are actually being used. A larger channel with separate teams may be able to maintain more levels, but the same cumulative structure still applies.

Price should follow delivery effort as well as audience expectations. A low-priced level that requires daily personal replies may be more demanding than a higher-priced level built around one prepared monthly video. Write down the recurring tasks before choosing a price, then decide whether the benefit is sustainable during holidays, illness, internet problems or a busy upload schedule.

The membership system does not replace the need to keep the public channel reliable. If a 24/7 stream is part of your offer, a spare-PC guide for running a 24/7 YouTube stream can help you assess the practical burden of leaving a computer running. If you want the uploaded file and channel to run without keeping your own computer switched on, StreamNeo removes that particular operating task by running the YouTube broadcast from the cloud with monitoring and automatic restart.

How the price update rule works

The most important restriction is the difference between new members and existing members. YouTube's pricing guidance says creators can adjust price levels for new members once every 12 months from the last price update. It also states: “At this time, existing members will remain at the price they originally signed up with.”

That means a new price is not a universal reset of the membership base. Someone who joined at an earlier price may continue at that original price, while a person joining after the updated schedule is available may see the new price. Do not tell existing members that their next renewal will automatically move to the new amount unless YouTube explicitly changes that guidance for your situation.

The 12-month rule also means you should not use the editor as a way to test several prices in quick succession. Choose the level and price after checking the current table, the value of the perks and the amount of work you can deliver. Keep a dated internal record of the last price update so you know when the next adjustment window may be available.

A price edit can also be misunderstood if you change the level name or perks at the same time. If the purpose is to alter the price, keep the rest of the offer as stable as possible. If you are redesigning the perks as well, explain both changes clearly to members and preserve a copy of the previous description.

Your viewer-facing wording should be precise. Say that the updated price applies to eligible new members after YouTube's review and rollout. Say that existing members retain their original signup price. Do not describe the result as an immediate change for every viewer.

Check YouTube's current India price table

India does not have one timeless membership price list that you can safely copy into an article, video description or community post. YouTube's official India pricing page distinguishes a new price from a previous price, and says the newer schedule has been rolling out gradually since May 2025. The amount a viewer sees can depend on when they join.

Before publishing a figure, open YouTube's current India channel membership pricing table and compare it with the values offered in Studio. The table is a published mapping of membership tiers, not a promise that every India-based viewer will see one identical final charge.

The representative entries below are as listed on YouTube's site in September 2026. They show why the distinction between new and previous prices matters:

USD tier shown by YouTube New India price Previous India price
$0.99 ₹59 ₹29
$1.99 ₹119 ₹59
$2.99 ₹179 ₹89
$3.99 ₹239 ₹119
$4.99 ₹299 ₹159
$5.99 ₹359 ₹199
$6.99 ₹419 ₹299
$7.99 ₹479 ₹399
$8.99 ₹599 ₹599
$9.99 ₹799 ₹799
$14.99 ₹1,199 ₹1,199
$19.99 ₹1,599 ₹1,599
$24.99 ₹1,999 ₹1,999
$29.99 ₹2,399 ₹2,399
$34.99 ₹2,799 ₹2,799
$39.99 ₹3,199 ₹3,199
$44.99 ₹3,599 ₹3,599
$49.99 ₹3,999 ₹3,999
$99.99 ₹7,999 ₹7,999
$149.99 ₹11,999 ₹11,999
$199.99 ₹15,999 ₹15,999
$249.99 ₹19,999 ₹19,999
$299.99 ₹23,999 ₹23,999
$399.99 ₹31,999 ₹31,999
$499.99 ₹39,999 ₹39,999

Use those figures as a reference to the dated table, not as a permanent universal schedule. YouTube says membership prices can differ by country or region and by the platform used to sign up. A viewer joining through a phone app may therefore see a different display from a viewer using a computer, and a viewer's existing membership may still use the original signup price.

For the same reason, avoid putting one rupee amount in a thumbnail or title without context. A safer announcement identifies the level, says whether the information concerns new members, and directs viewers to the membership join screen for the amount available to them. Recheck the official table before making a new announcement because YouTube can update the schedule or rollout status.

Announce and verify the change without overpromising

Once the updated level is visible, explain the change in plain language. Include the date of the announcement, the affected level, the price shown for new members and the main perk. Add that existing members remain at their original signup price unless YouTube's current guidance says otherwise.

Do not promise that every viewer will see the same amount. Instead, explain that YouTube's price may vary by region, signup platform and the time at which the member joined. This is more accurate than calling the figure “the India price” without qualification.

Keep a simple membership change log containing the submission date, review result, table version checked, level details and announcement text. It is useful when a viewer sends a screenshot that does not match your own screen. It also protects you from relying on an old community post after YouTube has changed its pricing table.

If your channel also runs continuously, separate membership troubleshooting from broadcast troubleshooting. A membership price cannot fix a stream that has stopped, and restarting a stream cannot correct a billing display. For the latter problem, the guide to telling whether a YouTube live stream stopped because of the encoder or internet deals with the operational diagnosis separately.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

How do I change YouTube membership prices in India?

On a computer, open YouTube Studio and choose Earn → Memberships. Select Edit in the “Step 1: Add levels and perks” box, adjust the relevant level, follow the prompts and publish the change for review.

Can I change the price for existing YouTube members?

YouTube's guidance says existing members remain at the price at which they originally signed up. A new price is therefore not an automatic repricing of the existing membership base.

Why do Indian viewers see different membership prices?

YouTube's published pricing can differ by country or region and by the platform used to sign up. The India table also distinguishes newer and previous schedules, and the amount can depend on when a viewer joins.

Why is the Memberships tab missing in YouTube Studio?

The channel may not yet be eligible, or activation may still be under review. Check YouTube's current eligibility and policy guidance, and remember that a newly accepted Partner Program channel may take up to two days for memberships to activate.
