To check whether an Indian channel can use YouTube live streaming, open YouTube Studio on a computer and go to Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility. Find the live-streaming feature and read its status; if phone verification is needed, YouTube shows a verification route under Intermediate features.
An Enabled status is a useful access check, but it does not answer every question about whether a particular stream can start. Feature access, restrictions on the channel and requirements for the streaming method you plan to use are separate things to verify.
Open Feature eligibility in YouTube Studio
Use a computer browser and sign in to the Google account that manages the channel you intend to stream from. If you manage more than one channel, check the channel selector before opening its settings. It is easy to verify one channel and then try to stream from another.
In YouTube Studio, select Settings, then Channel, then Feature eligibility. This page groups features according to the access level required. It is the place to check what YouTube currently makes available to that channel, rather than a general settings page or a page about stream production.
You do not need to buy a webcam, encoder or other equipment simply to check eligibility. Those are possible ways to make a broadcast; they are not prerequisites for opening Feature eligibility. For the official explanation of the settings and feature groups, see YouTube Help on feature access for creators.
Labels or page layouts can change, so use the settings names shown in Studio rather than relying on an old screenshot. If you cannot see the expected section, confirm that you are signed into the correct channel and that you are in Studio on a computer. Then look for Feature eligibility under Channel.
This check is for the channel, not a particular video file, scheduled broadcast or streaming application. Once you establish which channel has access, you can separately prepare the content and transmission method. If you are deciding how a file will be sent to YouTube, this guide to encoding and transcoding explains the distinction without changing what Studio reports about eligibility.
Find the live-streaming status
On Feature eligibility, inspect the available feature groups and locate the entry for live streaming. YouTube marks features available to the channel as Enabled. Read the status displayed for that entry rather than inferring access from the fact that other channel features work.
The page can tell you that live streaming is available at a feature-access level. It does not necessarily tell you that every mode of streaming is ready immediately, or that the channel has no restriction affecting live broadcasts. Treat the status as one checkpoint in a short verification process.
If the entry does not say Enabled, note which access tier it appears under and whether Studio offers an action to complete. For an India-based channel, a common next step is to verify a phone number for intermediate features. Do not assume that every missing status has the same cause; follow the instruction shown in the channel’s own Studio account.
You can also use this point to check that you are looking at the correct channel before moving on. A brand account or a second channel under the same Google login may have a different status. Keep the channel selector consistent while completing verification and later opening the live control room.
What Enabled means
Enabled means YouTube currently lists that feature as available to the channel in Studio. It is the answer to the narrow question, “Does this channel have this feature access?” It is not a promise that a stream will start successfully under every circumstance.
For live streaming, YouTube’s general help says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for creators. Check the current live-streaming requirements in YouTube Help if any of these conditions may apply; requirements can be updated.
There can also be a difference between streaming from a computer and streaming from a mobile device. YouTube’s mobile instructions include a minimum of 50 subscribers, a supported device, channel verification, no restriction in the preceding 90 days, and live streaming turned on. The page says first-time mobile activation can take up to 24 hours. Those mobile conditions should not be treated as the rule for checking computer live-streaming access in Studio. See YouTube’s instructions for mobile live streams if a phone or tablet is your intended method.
A sensible reading is therefore: Enabled confirms feature availability as Studio currently reports it; the channel’s restriction history and the chosen streaming method still need their own checks. If your goal is to run a recorded loop around the clock, you will also need a reliable way to keep the broadcast going and to recover when a session ends. A private test of a YouTube live loop lets you check the actual broadcast before making it public.
Verify the phone number if required
For an India-based channel, YouTube describes phone verification as a way to become “phone verified”. In Studio, the route is Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility > Intermediate features > VERIFY PHONE NUMBER. Choose the verification option offered, enter the number and complete the code prompt.
YouTube can send the code by text message or automated voice call. Follow the steps on screen and enter the code in Studio. Do not share that verification code with another person; it is intended to complete the account action you initiated.
YouTube’s India-specific help says the resulting “phone verified” label appears on the channel’s About page and is visible to users in India. This is distinct from the live-streaming status shown in Feature eligibility. The India-based verification page explains both the Studio path and the label: get phone verified as an India-based channel.
After completing the code prompt, return to Feature eligibility and check the live-streaming row again. The status displayed there is the practical confirmation of what Studio currently recognises for that channel. Phone verification may be required for the basic access tier, but it does not resolve every possible eligibility issue and does not itself clear a live-streaming restriction.
If the code does not arrive, YouTube advises trying the alternative delivery method or another number, since some operators may not support Google’s texts or calls and delivery can be delayed. YouTube also says a phone number can be associated with no more than two channels per year. Check its account verification guidance for current instructions rather than repeatedly requesting codes without checking the number or delivery method.
Understand intermediate and advanced access
YouTube groups channel features into access tiers. For this check, the important distinction is that phone verification is associated with intermediate features, while higher daily limits for computer live streaming are associated with advanced feature access. Studio’s Feature eligibility page shows the relevant tier and current status for your channel.
Do not read “intermediate” as a guarantee that every feature is enabled, or “advanced” as something that arrives automatically after phone verification. YouTube may require additional steps to establish advanced access. Follow the specific route and criteria Studio presents to your channel, and use YouTube’s current feature-access help for the explanation of available options.
The phrase “higher daily limits” matters when you are planning a channel that may stream often. It does not mean that the feature-status page removes all daily limits, nor does it say that a higher limit is identical to unrestricted access. If a workflow depends on a particular volume or frequency, confirm the current status in Studio and avoid planning around an assumption that an upgrade will be granted.
Keep this access question separate from stream quality and continuity. Feature eligibility does not tell you whether your loop will play without a gap, whether the network will stay connected, or whether your chosen method will restart after a failure. Those are production questions to test separately. For instance, a guide to keeping a lecture stream running after a stream key reset addresses continuity rather than channel eligibility.
If live streaming is not enabled
First, read the exact message in Feature eligibility. If Studio offers phone verification under Intermediate features, complete the phone-number flow and then return to the same page to check the result. If the page points to another step or does not offer verification, follow that channel-specific instruction and consult the relevant YouTube Help page.
If the channel is verified but a stream still will not start, check whether it has had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. A phone-verified label and a feature status do not erase restrictions. Use the account and live-streaming notices shown by YouTube to understand what applies, and do not try to bypass a restriction by moving the broadcast to another channel without checking the rules.
Next, confirm the streaming method. If you are starting from a mobile device, check the mobile-specific subscriber and device conditions and allow for the first mobile stream to take up to 24 hours to become available after enabling. If you are starting from a computer, do not apply the mobile subscriber threshold to the Studio access check; instead, work from the computer live-streaming instructions and the channel’s Feature eligibility status.
If code delivery is the blocker, try the other available delivery method or another number and check YouTube’s verification guidance for the current limits. If the issue is an ambiguous or changing eligibility notice, take note of the channel and message and check YouTube Help or Studio again later. Do not assume a delay means the channel has been approved, and do not buy streaming equipment to solve an account-access message.
Once Studio confirms the feature and the other relevant conditions are met, you can decide how to operate the actual broadcast. For a channel that needs to keep a prerecorded programme running while your own computer is off, StreamNeo removes the need to leave your computer running and manually recover a dropped broadcast: you upload the video, provide your YouTube stream key and the cloud-run broadcast is monitored and restarted if it drops. It is YouTube-only, so first confirm that its operating model suits the channel and content you intend to stream.
A first live test is still worthwhile even when the access check is clear. Use an unlisted or private test where appropriate, check sound and picture, and confirm that the selected stream key belongs to the right channel. You can then decide whether to publish the programme or change the setup, rather than discovering a production problem in the middle of a public broadcast.
Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.
FAQ
Where is Feature eligibility in YouTube Studio?
On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio and select Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility. Check that the selected channel is the one you plan to use for streaming. The page shows feature access for that channel.
Does phone verification mean I can definitely go live?
No. Phone verification may be part of the access route, but YouTube also requires that the channel meet applicable live-streaming conditions, including having no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check the status and any notices in Studio after verification.
Do I need 50 subscribers to check computer live-streaming access?
The 50-subscriber requirement described in YouTube’s help applies to mobile live streaming, not to checking the computer live-streaming feature in Studio. If you plan to stream from a phone or tablet, check the current mobile requirements separately.
Why does my channel show Enabled but my first mobile stream is not available?
Mobile streaming has separate requirements, and YouTube says first-time mobile activation can take up to 24 hours. Confirm the mobile conditions and give activation time; an Enabled feature status alone does not mean every streaming method is immediately ready.
