To show a Streamlabs alert when a viewer gifts YouTube channel memberships, enable memberships on an eligible YouTube channel, connect that channel to Streamlabs, then configure a variation under the YouTube Members alert event. The variation sets which gift events should use that alert; it does not put the Alert Box on your broadcast by itself.
You need both parts: a saved event configuration and an Alert Box widget in the scene or streaming software that is actually live. Test the widget before going live, and treat that test as a check of the overlay path—not proof that YouTube will produce a real gift event for your channel.
Check that YouTube memberships are enabled
Start in YouTube Studio, not in Streamlabs. Open Earn > Memberships and check whether the tab is available and whether channel memberships are active. YouTube says the Memberships tab is shown to eligible channels; if your channel is not eligible or memberships are not enabled, do not expect Streamlabs’ membership-gifting variation to work. Streamlabs configuration does not switch on YouTube memberships or bypass YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
YouTube’s instructions for connecting its features to Streamlabs also say to make sure Channel memberships or Super Chat is eligible and turned on before setting up the integration. Follow the current YouTube Help instructions for channel memberships and check the status in Studio. If you have only recently joined the YouTube Partner Program, YouTube notes that its eligibility review and activation can take up to two days. That is a platform review period, not a Streamlabs processing estimate.
If the Memberships tab is missing, pause here. Check the current YouTube eligibility information and the channel’s Studio notices rather than trying random Streamlabs settings. Until memberships are enabled, you cannot validate an actual membership-gifting alert on the channel. You may still be able to inspect settings or use a test widget, but that only checks the overlay you have configured.
A welcome message in YouTube live chat is not the same thing as a Streamlabs overlay alert. YouTube describes an ordinary new membership during a live stream as producing a green Welcome message in chat, pinned for five minutes. That native chat notice and a custom Alert Box visual are separate displays. If the chat message appears but the overlay does not, focus on the Streamlabs widget and scene after confirming the feature is active.
Connect the eligible channel to Streamlabs
Sign in to Streamlabs using the Google account associated with the YouTube channel you intend to broadcast from, then follow the on-screen steps to connect it. If the Google account manages more than one channel, check the channel identity carefully during the linking flow. The channel connected to Streamlabs should be the same channel whose live stream will use the alert.
A common source of confusion is signing into the right Google account but connecting the wrong channel under it. Verify the linked YouTube identity in Streamlabs before configuring events. If the event list later shows no YouTube Members option, confirm the selected platform and account first, then revisit the channel’s Memberships status in Studio.
Keep this connection step distinct from adding a visual widget. Linking an account makes the platform’s alert events available in Streamlabs; it does not ensure that the Alert Box is present in your broadcast scene. That second part is a separate setup step, covered below.
If your channel has a complex broadcast arrangement, write down which channel is linked and which scene is live before testing. This is especially useful when you maintain a devotional stream and a separate news or study channel, or when different operators manage scenes. For wider streaming workflow considerations, see the guide to multistreaming and channel setup, but do not assume that connecting one YouTube account configures every channel or scene for you.
Open Alert Box settings
In the Streamlabs Dashboard, open Alert Box. The available event choices depend on the selected platform and event type, so make sure you are working with YouTube before choosing an event. Streamlabs’ Alert Box documentation explains the widget and its configuration; use the current dashboard labels if they differ slightly from a guide or screenshot.
The Alert Box is where you choose how an event should appear: for example, the image or GIF, sound, on-screen text, animation, and duration where those controls are available. The exact options can depend on the event and platform. Save changes after editing; an unsaved preview is not a dependable indication of what the live widget will use.
Before making a gift-specific rule, look at the event list and confirm that YouTube Members is available. Do not choose a generic YouTube alert because it seems close, or an event belonging to a different connected platform. A Members event covers membership activity; a variation lets you specify a matching gift condition for an alert style. Those are related but distinct settings.
Choose the YouTube Members event
Select the YouTube Members event in Alert Box settings. This is the relevant event category for channel membership activity, including gifting. Then add or edit a variation beneath that event to define the gift condition you want to distinguish. Streamlabs lists membership gift amount, number of memberships gifted at once, and gift level as available variation conditions for YouTube Members.
A variation is useful when you want a gift to use a different presentation from other member activity, or when you want a particular gift threshold or level to have its own alert. For example, you could keep a general Members alert and give a distinct sound and message to a gift of a chosen number of memberships. That is a presentation rule, not a way to alter YouTube’s gifting behaviour or decide who receives a gift.
Streamlabs’ guide to Alert Box variations names conditions such as “Membership gift amount is ” and “User gifted at least members at once.” The names are useful when checking that you have selected the right event and rule. Streamlabs documents gift amount, number gifted, and gift level; do not expect arbitrary conditions beyond those documented options.
Add a membership-gifting variation
Under the Members event, add a variation and choose the condition that matches what you want the alert to identify. The documented choices are:
| Condition | What it distinguishes | When it may suit |
|---|---|---|
| Membership gift amount | A gift event matching an amount value | When you want a particular gift amount to have its own appearance |
| Number of memberships gifted at once | A gift meeting the selected number threshold | When the count of memberships in one gift is the distinction that matters |
| Membership gift level | A gift associated with a selected membership level | When your channel’s membership levels should have different alert treatments |
Use the condition labels shown in your Streamlabs account; do not infer that “amount” means a cash donation. This rule concerns membership gifts. Set the value or level offered by the interface, give the variation a name you will recognise later, then customise its available text, image, sound, animation, and timing. Save the variation and return to the alert settings to check that it remains enabled.
If you want every membership-gifting event to appear the same way, keep the design simple and avoid creating overlapping rules until you understand how the configured variations are applied. If you need distinct treatments, use clear names such as “gift threshold” or “gift level” rather than names that will be hard to interpret in a test list. The purpose is to make later checking straightforward, particularly if another person maintains the broadcast.
Do not confuse channel membership gifting with Gifts powered by Jewels. A membership gift gives an eligible viewer a channel membership; Jewels are virtual items viewers buy and send during eligible live streams. YouTube describes Jewels gifts as a separate feature, enabled in Studio under Earn > Supers & gifts after accepting the Virtual Items Module. That path does not create the Streamlabs Members gift variation. YouTube’s information about Gifts powered by Jewels explains that separate programme and its availability conditions.
The two features differ in what a viewer sends, where the creator enables it, and what the on-screen event represents. Membership gifting belongs under Streamlabs’ YouTube Members event and variation settings. Jewels gifts belong to YouTube’s separate feature controls and represent a virtual gift, not a gifted channel membership. If you are trying to configure a membership alert, return to the Members event rather than looking for a Jewels option.
YouTube also controls whether gifting and receiving are available in a particular case. Recipients must opt in to receive gifted memberships, and YouTube documents restrictions, including that existing members and people signed in through Brand Accounts cannot receive one under its cited guidance. A variation can change how a qualifying event is displayed; it cannot override recipient eligibility or cause an event to occur. Review YouTube’s current gifted memberships guidance if you are checking who can receive gifts.
Add the Alert Box to the broadcast scene
Saving a variation configures an event, but it does not place an overlay on the live output. In Streamlabs Desktop, open the scene you intend to use, select the plus button in Sources, and add Alert Box. Check that the source is visible and not obscured by another element. If you use another broadcasting application, copy the Alert Box widget link from the Streamlabs Dashboard and add it to the correct scene as a browser source.
Confirm the widget is in the scene that will actually be live. A test may succeed in one scene while the broadcast uses another. In a multi-scene setup, make a note of which scenes contain the Alert Box and check the active scene before going live. If you use a browser source, use the link associated with the intended Streamlabs Alert Box and keep it private as you would any widget link.
Streamlabs also provides event filters for the widget link, allowing you to limit which selected alerts display through that widget. If you adjust filters, make sure the Members alert has not been excluded. This is a separate possible reason an event can be configured but not shown through the particular widget on your live scene.
For a continuous channel, the scene check matters as much as the event rule. A loop can continue playing while the wrong scene or a scene without the Alert Box is selected. If your channel runs pre-recorded material, the guide to looping videos on YouTube Live from India covers the content loop separately; here, verify that the alert overlay is part of the broadcast scene carrying that loop.
Test the alert before going live
Preview the alert while editing, then run a test through the dashboard’s alert settings or through Test Widgets in Streamlabs Desktop. Select the relevant alert type where the test interface offers that choice. Watch the output in the scene or preview that corresponds to the broadcast, rather than relying only on the settings panel.
A test can establish that the widget appears and that its visual and audio treatment is broadly as intended. It does not establish that YouTube has produced a real membership gift, that recipients will qualify, or that every live event will be delivered. Think of it as a check of the configured overlay path, from Streamlabs settings to the scene or browser source.
Check the practical details while testing: is the text readable at the size viewers will see, does it cover a face or important information, is the sound appropriate for your channel, and does the alert remain visible long enough to read without lingering over the next segment? If you use a quiet bhajan stream or a study channel, a loud effect can be more disruptive than helpful. Adjust the treatment to suit the content rather than assuming a default fits every channel.
If the test does not appear, trace the path in order. Confirm the Members event and variation are saved; confirm the correct Alert Box widget is enabled; check that it is present in the active scene or the right browser-source scene; then run the test again. This is more useful than repeatedly changing the gift threshold when the missing piece is the widget itself. If the picture or sound quality of the broadcast also needs attention, see the checks for testing signal quality from a streaming PC.
Keep a short record of the working configuration: the connected channel, the Members variation condition, the scene containing the Alert Box, and the test you ran. This gives you a practical reference if the setup is revisited after changing channels, scenes, or alert styling. It also helps distinguish a configuration change from a YouTube eligibility change.
If an actual gift happens but there is no alert, first check that the connected Streamlabs account and live channel still match and that the broadcast scene contains the configured widget. Then revisit the relevant variation and widget filters. If a YouTube chat Welcome notice appears without a visual alert, remember that YouTube’s native chat notice and the Streamlabs overlay are separate outputs; the chat notice alone does not prove the overlay is placed correctly.

FAQ
Can I set up the Streamlabs alert before YouTube memberships are enabled?
You can work on an overlay’s appearance or use a widget test, but do not treat that as a functioning membership-gifting alert. YouTube memberships must be eligible and enabled for the channel before you can rely on the YouTube Members gift event. Confirm the current status in YouTube Studio.
What if Streamlabs does not show a Members event or gift condition?
Check that YouTube is the selected platform and that the intended YouTube channel is connected. Then verify that channel memberships are eligible and active in Studio. Streamlabs’ available events and variation conditions depend on the selected platform and event type.
Does a successful test prove that a viewer’s gift will trigger this alert?
No. A Streamlabs test checks that the alert can be previewed through the configured widget path; it is not a real YouTube gift. YouTube controls gifting and recipient eligibility, while the Streamlabs variation controls how a matching event is presented.
Are membership gifts the same as Gifts powered by Jewels?
No. A membership gift is a gifted channel membership; Jewels are virtual items viewers purchase and send during eligible live streams. The Streamlabs membership alert is configured under YouTube Members, while YouTube manages Jewels under its separate Gifts feature.
