If you are in India and plan to use a Hetzner Cloud server for a YouTube stream, check the payment methods shown in your Hetzner account before creating the server. Hetzner lists several methods, but does not offer every method in every country, and a listing is not a guarantee that your particular card or account will be approved.

The safe order is to register with accurate billing details, choose your account currency carefully, and confirm a usable method in the account’s payment settings. Only then provision a server and check how ongoing resource and traffic charges will be handled.

Check payment options before creating a server

A server can begin accruing charges as soon as it is created, so settle the payment question first. Hetzner’s Payment Overview says that credit cards, bank or wire transfers, and PayPal are among its payment methods. It also says options vary by country and that your account lists the methods available to you.

That distinction matters when you are searching for “Hetzner payment methods in India”. The general list tells you what Hetzner supports somewhere; your account settings tell you what is currently offered for your account. Neither an online discussion nor another customer’s successful payment proves that a specific Indian-issued card, PayPal account, or bank-transfer route will work for you.

Use the account screen as a preflight, not as an afterthought. If you cannot see a payment method you can use, or cannot tell how it works, pause before making a Cloud project or server. Resolve the billing route with Hetzner or choose another hosting arrangement rather than hoping the first invoice will sort itself out.

For a stream, payment is only one part of the plan. You will also need to configure an encoder or relay to send a stable feed to YouTube. If you are comparing a self-managed VPS workflow, the guide to streaming an Indian regional radio station to YouTube with a low-cost VPS gives relevant context on the streaming side; it does not establish Hetzner payment eligibility.

Register with accurate billing details

Create the account using a valid email address and genuine personal or business contact and billing details. Hetzner’s account getting-started guide describes the information needed for an account. A phone number is optional, though Hetzner says it may help with verification. Keep your records consistent: use the billing address and account identity that correspond to the person or organisation responsible for the service.

Avoid using a VPN during account creation. Hetzner advises against it because a VPN can make identity verification and fraud assessment harder. This is not a way to guarantee acceptance: Hetzner may review an account or order, and accurate information does not ensure that any payment method or particular order will be approved.

Choose the account currency deliberately during registration. Hetzner says the currency cannot be changed on an existing account, and Cloud resources are charged in the currency selected for the account or project. Think about how your bank or card issuer handles foreign currency before choosing. Any exchange rate, foreign-transaction fee, or other issuer charge depends on that provider; Hetzner’s payment list does not tell you what your Indian bank will charge.

For example, if you expect to use a business card, check with the card issuer whether overseas online transactions are enabled and how a charge in the chosen currency will be converted. That is a separate question from whether Hetzner displays the card as a payment option. Confirm both sides before ordering.

Find payment settings in Hetzner Accounts

After registration, sign in to Hetzner Accounts and locate the payment or billing settings. The labels and exact interface can change, so follow the current account navigation and Hetzner’s documentation rather than relying on an old screenshot. Inspect the options displayed for your account and read any instructions attached to each one.

Make a note of three things before you proceed: the payment methods actually offered, whether you need to take action when an invoice arrives, and whether the billing currency is the one you intended. If the account is awaiting verification or a payment choice is unavailable, do not create a server to test it. A test server is still a billable resource, and turning it off does not necessarily stop charges.

Keep access to the account email address and payment instrument available. If verification or a payment retry is needed later, you will want to see notices promptly and be able to log in. For a channel that should run overnight, billing access is part of operations: a stream plan is not dependable if an invoice can go unnoticed.

This account-level check is deliberately more useful than a blanket answer to whether Hetzner “works in India”. Hetzner publishes its broad payment policy, but only the customer’s own account can show its available methods. An account screen can still change or a payment can be declined, so retain a backup plan for the channel rather than treating one successful setup step as a permanent guarantee.

Review card, PayPal, and bank-transfer options

If the account shows more than one route, compare them by the work and uncertainty they create for you. Hetzner lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and UnionPay credit cards. It says cards are charged automatically except for UnionPay. PayPal and bank or wire transfer payments are manual through Hetzner Accounts. Availability is account-specific, and the practical route is the one your account displays and your provider will authorise.

Route shown in the account What Hetzner says about payment What you should verify
Credit card Cards are normally charged automatically, except UnionPay. Whether the issuer permits the transaction and what currency conversion or fees it applies.
UnionPay card Listed as a card type; it is the exception to automatic card charging. The account’s instructions for making payment and whether your issuer supports the transaction.
PayPal Payment is manual through Hetzner Accounts. Whether the option appears for your account, and how you will notice and complete an invoice payment.
Bank or wire transfer Payment is manual through Hetzner Accounts. Whether the option appears and what transfer details, timing, and bank charges apply.

Treat this as a comparison of payment mechanics, not a promise that each row is available to customers in India. Ask your bank about its own international payment controls and charges. For a transfer, consider the time your bank takes to send an international payment and how you will match it to the invoice. Hetzner’s general documentation cannot tell you the cost or processing time your bank will apply.

Hetzner also says SEPA direct debit is restricted to EUR accounts. That does not make it a practical route for every customer based in India; the decisive point remains what appears in your account. The company says it does not accept Apple Pay or other payment forms merely linked to a credit card, and does not accept cryptocurrency. Do not infer that an underlying card will be accepted just because it is stored in a wallet.

Choose based on your own account and your ability to manage the payment. An automatic card charge requires less routine action, but a declined transaction needs attention. A manual PayPal or bank payment gives you a separate step to complete for an invoice, which means you need a process for checking and paying it on time. There is no evidence here for naming one as the winning method for all India-based customers.

Understand automatic versus manual charges

Hetzner bills after service use and issues invoices monthly. Its payment documentation says invoices are due immediately and should be paid within ten days. A card charge is normally automatic, subject to the UnionPay exception; PayPal and bank or wire payments require you to make the payment manually through Hetzner Accounts. Check the current payment instructions in your account when an invoice is issued.

If an automatic card payment fails, Hetzner says you can retry it up to five times or change to another payment option available in your account. A retry is a recovery path, not a reason to ignore a decline. Check whether your issuer blocked the charge, whether its online or international transaction settings need attention, and whether the account offers an alternative. Do not assume that switching to a method absent from the account is possible.

Late or unpaid invoices can result in reminders and, depending on circumstances, restrictions to services or the account. Build a simple routine: keep the billing email current, check invoices when they arrive, and make sure the person responsible for the channel can access the account. If you choose a manual route, record who will pay and when. That matters if the channel is run by a team, a business, or a volunteer group.

Keep a separate eye on resource charges. A Cloud server remains billable while it exists, even when powered off; deleting it is what stops its server charges. Outgoing traffic beyond the included package allowance can also be chargeable. Hetzner says incoming and internal traffic are free, and documents traffic notifications at 75% and 100% of the included allowance. Those notifications do not cap traffic or prevent further charges.

A continuous YouTube stream can send substantial outgoing data, so estimate the stream’s traffic before choosing a server and monitor usage after it begins. If you are still deciding how to operate the channel, the overview of alternatives for 24/7 YouTube streaming can help frame the operational choices; it is not a substitute for calculating VPS traffic or checking Hetzner billing. For stream quality decisions, the FFmpeg resolution guide for an OVHcloud VPS explains a related encoder setting, but server and network behaviour may differ.

Check country-specific availability

There is no universal answer to “Can I use an Indian credit card for Hetzner?” or “Does Hetzner accept PayPal in India?” Hetzner’s stated policy is that it does not offer all payment options in every country and that the user account lists the available methods. That means the general payment list is not evidence that an Indian card or PayPal account will be authorised on a particular order.

Availability and successful payment are also distinct. A method may appear in settings, yet the bank, card issuer, or payment provider may decline a particular transaction. Conversely, another person’s successful transaction does not establish that the same route is offered to your account. Confirm with the provider that the account can make the relevant type of payment, and use Hetzner’s own account instructions for the actual billing step.

If Hetzner’s account review requests more information, respond through the official account process and provide accurate records. Hetzner may review or reject orders, particularly where a new account places an unusually large or high-value order. Do not try to bypass verification with misleading billing details or location masking; that can make the review harder rather than resolve the payment question.

For VAT, keep Hetzner’s invoice treatment separate from your own tax obligations. Hetzner’s VAT documentation says invoices for customers outside the EU are generally issued without VAT, with listed exceptions; India is not among the exceptions shown there. That describes Hetzner’s treatment based on the billing address, not a conclusion about Indian GST, withholding, or business tax. Ask a qualified adviser if you need to determine your obligations.

Resolve a declined or unavailable method

If the payment settings do not show the method you expected, first verify that the account details and billing address are correct and that any account verification step is complete. Then consult Hetzner’s current Payment Overview and contact its support through the account if the display or instructions are unclear. Do not create a server in the hope that a method will appear later.

If a card charge is declined, check with the issuer for a block, a spending control, or a requirement to approve an overseas transaction. Confirm the exact charge currency and ask about conversion fees separately. If the account provides another method, compare its process and timing before changing over. For manual transfers, follow the current invoice and account instructions rather than copying payment details from an old message or another customer.

Keep the stream plan independent from the billing workaround. If the server is not yet provisioned, you can continue preparing your media, YouTube channel and ingest settings without creating a billable resource. If you already have a server, remember that powering it off does not stop its charge; delete it if you intend to stop using it, while considering any data you need to retain first.

The practical decision is simple: proceed only when the account shows a method you can use, you understand whether it is automatic or manual, and you have a plan to monitor invoices and usage. If those conditions are not met, pause and resolve them rather than treating a payment test as a harmless step.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

Can I use an Indian credit card for Hetzner?

Hetzner lists several card networks, but says payment availability differs by country and the account shows your available methods. Check that the card option appears, then confirm with your issuer that it permits the transaction; neither step guarantees authorisation of a particular payment.

Does Hetzner accept PayPal in India?

PayPal is among Hetzner’s listed payment methods, and Hetzner says PayPal payments are manual through Hetzner Accounts. That does not establish that it is available to every India-based account, so check your account’s payment settings before provisioning a server.

Will a bank transfer work from India?

Hetzner lists bank or wire transfers, but the account-specific availability rule applies. If the option appears, check the instructions, your bank’s fees and transfer timing, and how to ensure the invoice is paid by its due date.

Does switching off a Cloud server stop the bill?

No. Hetzner says a Cloud server remains billable while it exists, even when powered off; delete it to stop server charges. Check traffic charges and any remaining resources as well, and preserve data you need before deletion.
