The current product name is Wowza Video, although older instructions and this subject may call it Wowza Streaming Cloud. The setup is: make your YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, create a YouTube event, create a 24x7 channel in Wowza Video, connect the source, add YouTube as the target, and verify both sides before going public.
For viewers in India, the important choice is where the stream originates, not simply where your audience lives. Select a Wowza broadcast region close to your encoder or source, leave capacity for network variation, and treat YouTube's live event and archive rules separately from Wowza's 24x7 workflow.
Check YouTube live-streaming eligibility
Start in YouTube Studio rather than Wowza. Wowza can send a stream to YouTube, but it cannot grant your channel permission to use YouTube Live.
YouTube requires a verified channel and says the channel must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this before the day on which you plan to launch. You can review the current requirements in YouTube's live-streaming help.
Open YouTube Studio, choose the live-streaming option, and complete any verification or activation steps shown there. Do not assume that a previously verified Google account has automatically enabled live streaming on the particular YouTube channel you intend to use.
You should also decide whether the first test will be public, private or unlisted. An unlisted test lets you check the complete route without sending an unfinished broadcast to your subscribers. It does not remove your responsibility for the material being transmitted, including music, images and recorded programmes.
YouTube's live-stream terms require you to have the rights needed for worldwide use of the live content, including music rights. A devotional loop, local news replay, radio-style station or business presentation can still contain third-party material that needs separate permission. Check the current YouTube terms and the rules that apply to your actual content and business in India; neither Wowza nor this setup process confirms that a particular programme is cleared.
If you are deciding whether to use an encoder on a local computer, first compare the practical trade-offs in StreamYard versus OBS for prerecorded YouTube video. The rest of this guide assumes that the source will be sent into Wowza Video rather than directly to YouTube.
Create the YouTube Live event
Once live streaming is enabled, create the destination event in YouTube Studio. YouTube may present this as scheduling a live stream or creating a stream, depending on the current Studio interface.
Give the event a recognisable title and description, select the intended visibility, and set the schedule if you want a planned start. For a first test, use an unlisted or private event where that option is available. The key point is to create the event before configuring the Wowza target, because the event supplies the connection details.
In YouTube Live Control Room, find and copy these two values:
- The live server URL, sometimes labelled the Stream URL.
- The stream key.
Keep the stream key private, like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to that event. Do not paste it into a public support post, screenshot or shared spreadsheet. If it is exposed, rotate or replace it in YouTube before using the event again.
The server URL and key belong in the destination configuration, not in the video file itself. Keep a plain-text operating note with the event name, the source name, the intended visibility and the time of the test, but store the key in a protected place.
Do not start the public broadcast merely because the YouTube event exists. At this point YouTube has a destination, but it has not necessarily received any audio or video. The next steps create the path from your source to Wowza and then from Wowza to YouTube.
Create a 24x7 channel in Wowza Video
Older guides may say “Wowza Streaming Cloud”. Wowza says the product is now named Wowza Video, so look for the current Wowza Video interface and documentation when following these steps. This guide concerns a Wowza Video cloud channel, not a separate Wowza Streaming Engine installation with its own stream-target configuration.
Sign in to Wowza Video and open the live-streams area. Choose the option to add a new live stream, then select “24x7 channel” when that option is available. Enter a name that describes the source and purpose, such as mandir-morning-loop or local-news-test, rather than relying on an automatically generated label.
A 24x7 channel requires 24x7 streaming to be enabled on the Wowza account. As described in Wowza's documentation in September 2026, 24x7 streaming is not available in a trial account and users are instructed to contact Wowza to enable it. Confirm that your account, selected plan and intended configuration are eligible before building the rest of the workflow. Do not infer availability in India from the existence of an India-related location in an API reference.
Wowza's setup documentation also describes 24x7 mode as an always-on workflow. It says, as listed in Wowza's documentation in September 2026, that billing mode is selected when the channel is created, cannot be changed after creation, 24x7 streams cannot be recorded in Wowza Video, and the mode does not support 4K. Treat those as account and product details to recheck in the current interface before committing. The exact billing choices and feature availability can change.
A 24x7 channel is not the same thing as a complete YouTube archive. It is a way to keep the Wowza channel workflow running while your source continues to send media. YouTube still controls the destination event, preview, public broadcast and archive behaviour.
If the source will be a computer running OBS, review OBS settings for a 24/7 YouTube stream in India before connecting it. That article can help you separate source-side encoding decisions from the Wowza channel configuration.
Choose a broadcast region near the source
During channel creation, choose the Wowza broadcast region closest to where the stream originates. If the encoder is in Bengaluru, for example, begin by checking the India or nearby Asia-Pacific location presented in your account. If the source is running in a different country, choose based on that source location rather than on the city where most viewers live.
The reason is the first network leg: your encoder must upload the media to Wowza. A nearby broadcast location can reduce the distance and network paths between the source and the ingest point, although it cannot correct an unstable local connection or a poorly configured encoder.
Wowza's API reference lists asia_pacific_india among its broadcast-location values. That confirms that an India-related location is represented in the API documentation, but it does not prove that every Wowza plan, 24x7 mode or output option is available there. Use the locations shown in your own account and confirm eligibility with Wowza if the expected region is missing.
Do not choose a region and then assume the selection can be changed without consequence. Check the current channel creation screen, account terms and billing information before confirming the channel. If the source may move between locations, decide whether a stable source location is more useful than changing the channel later.
Plan your upload connection before the first overnight test. YouTube's streaming guidance says the total outgoing bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% of upload capacity as room. That headroom is for the complete outgoing stream, not just the video track. Include audio, protocol overhead and other uploads sharing the same connection.
Connect the encoder or source
Now connect the source that will provide the continuous programme. This might be OBS on a desktop, an FFmpeg process, a camera workflow or another source supported by the current Wowza Video connection method. The source must produce a compatible live feed with both video and audio if your programme requires both.
In Wowza Video, open the new 24x7 channel's source or connection settings and follow the supported workflow shown there. Enter the connection details into the source application, then start the source only when you are ready to test. The exact labels can change, so use the current field names rather than copying a screenshot from an older Streaming Cloud guide.
For a computer-based source, check these points before starting:
- The correct scene or file is selected.
- Audio meters move when programme audio should be present.
- The source is not using a sleep, lock or automatic shutdown setting that interrupts transmission.
- The upload connection has the planned headroom.
- The stream key or source credentials are not visible in a recording or screen share.
A prerecorded file must also behave like a live source. It should continue at the intended end of the file, either by looping through the source application or by using a process designed for continuous playback. A file that reaches its end and closes the encoder will not create an always-on channel by itself.
If you are using FFmpeg and the feed stops, the symptoms may be at the source rather than in Wowza. Keep the FFmpeg YouTube Live troubleshooting guide available when testing reconnection, process restarts and input errors.
Start the Wowza channel according to the current control panel, then start or connect the source. Watch for an incoming or active status and a preview. Do not proceed because the encoder reports that it is connected; the useful confirmation is that Wowza is receiving the expected picture and sound.
Add YouTube as the target
With the YouTube event credentials ready and the Wowza source configured, add YouTube as the output target in Wowza Video. The current Wowza Video YouTube workflow uses an external RTMP service target. Select an output rendition, choose the external RTMP option, and enter the primary URL from YouTube Live Control Room together with the YouTube stream key.
In the Wowza Video workflow described by its current documentation, the external RTMP target does not require a target username or password for this YouTube connection. Leave those fields blank if the current interface gives the same instruction. Do not substitute the YouTube server URL for a username field or add credentials that YouTube did not provide.
Check the target configuration character by character. A copied space, an incomplete URL or a key from a different event can produce a target that looks configured but never reaches the intended YouTube preview. If you have more than one event, label your notes so that the Wowza target and YouTube event can be matched without guesswork.
This is where product distinctions matter. A separate Wowza Streaming Engine guide may tell you to create a YouTube Live stream target inside an Engine application and enable stream targets there. That procedure is not the same as creating a 24x7 channel in Wowza Video. Follow the controls belonging to the product you actually purchased and configured.
YouTube's encoder instructions also expect the server URL and stream key to be copied into the sending system. Its current guidance is available in YouTube's encoder setup help. The target must carry audio if the programme includes audio; test both rather than judging the connection only by a moving picture.
Start the source and verify both systems
Use a staged start instead of publishing immediately. First start the source and confirm that Wowza reports an active incoming stream and shows the expected preview. Then enable or start the YouTube target and wait for YouTube Live Control Room to show its preview.
The two previews answer different questions:
| Check | What it confirms | If it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Wowza incoming status | The source has reached the Wowza channel | Check the encoder, source address, credentials and upload path |
| Wowza preview | Wowza can decode the expected picture and sound | Check source format, audio and the selected input |
| YouTube Live Control Room preview | YouTube is receiving the target output | Check the YouTube URL, stream key and target status |
| Public or test watch page | The event is visible as intended | Check event visibility, processing and whether the broadcast was started |
Do not make the event public until YouTube's preview is stable enough for your test. Check speech or music for audio, not only the video thumbnail. Watch for frozen frames, silence, repeated buffering or a source that advances for a short time and then stops.
When the preview is correct, start the YouTube broadcast if YouTube requires a separate start action. Confirm the watch page from another connection or device. A control-room preview proves receipt by YouTube; it does not by itself prove that a viewer on a mobile network can open the intended page.
Write down the order that worked. Include the Wowza channel name, source start procedure, target status, YouTube event name, preview check and public-start action. Keep the stream key out of this runbook. A short runbook is more useful at two in the morning than a collection of screenshots whose fields may have changed.
Plan for overnight operation and archiving
A 24x7 setup still needs observation. Create a simple check routine for the first night that covers the source process, Wowza incoming status, YouTube target status, picture, audio and the network connection. If the source is on a local computer, decide who can restart it and what happens if the building's power or internet connection fails.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom, as noted in its streaming tips. Measure the connection under normal household or office use rather than relying only on an advertised line speed. Another upload, a cloud backup or a software update can consume the margin that the stream needs.
A second source or network path can be an operational choice for a channel where interruptions matter. It is not a requirement established by the Wowza or YouTube instructions above, and it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Start with a documented recovery step: identify whether the failure is at the source, Wowza input, Wowza target or YouTube event before changing several settings at once.
Treat recording as a separate design decision. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. As listed in YouTube Help in September 2026, that means a single continuously open 24/7 event is not a dependable sole archive plan. YouTube's archive guidance should be checked before you choose a recording workflow.
If the recording matters, keep a local archive of the source or use a deliberate session schedule that fits your continuity requirements. Ending and restarting YouTube sessions may affect viewers, notifications and the public watch page, so decide whether archive completeness or uninterrupted presentation has priority. Wowza's 24x7 channel itself is also described as not recordable in Wowza Video, as listed in its documentation in September 2026.
For a channel carrying devotional music, ambient material, news clips or business presentations, review rights whenever the content changes. A loop that was acceptable for private testing may require different permissions when broadcast publicly and worldwide. The technical path can be correct while the programme still needs a separate content review.
Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.
FAQ
Is Wowza Streaming Cloud still the name I should look for?
Wowza's current product name is Wowza Video, so use the current Wowza Video interface and documentation. Older guides may still refer to Streaming Cloud, but check that their controls describe a cloud 24x7 channel rather than a separate Wowza Streaming Engine setup.
Does Wowza enable YouTube Live on my channel?
No. YouTube eligibility, verification and any live-stream restrictions are controlled by YouTube. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio and allow time for first-time activation before configuring the Wowza destination.
Can I use one 24x7 YouTube event as my complete archive?
You should not rely on that. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and Wowza's 24x7 channel is described as not recordable in Wowza Video. Keep a separate local or planned recording workflow if the archive matters.
Should I choose an India region because my viewers are in India?
Choose the Wowza broadcast region near the source that uploads the stream, not solely near the audience. An India-related location is listed in Wowza's API reference, but confirm that the location and your selected 24x7 features are available in your current account.
