For a prerecorded Hindi channel, vMix sends its programme to YouTube using the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Studio. Hindi does not require a different ingest protocol, URL or key procedure; the language belongs in your programme and channel presentation, not in the RTMP connection fields.
The practical sequence is to create or schedule the YouTube stream, copy its endpoint details, enter them in vMix, then verify the outgoing feed in Live Control Room before you publish. The steps below cover both a listed YouTube provider, if your vMix installation offers one, and the Custom RTMP Server route.
Create or schedule the YouTube live stream
In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live. Create a stream for an immediate broadcast, or use the Manage tab to schedule one. A scheduled event gives you a watch page to share in advance and may let viewers request a notification. It does not start the public broadcast by itself: you will still need to check the encoder preview and take the final Go live action in Live Control Room.
YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance explains how to create and manage streams. Before relying on the channel for a live event, confirm it is verified and that it has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, as YouTube requires. The stream setup screen and the channel’s eligibility are separate from your vMix configuration; a correctly entered key cannot remove a channel restriction.
Decide whether this is one scheduled programme or part of a continuous channel. For a bhajan, devotional, study or local-information channel, you might schedule a specific programme with a clear start time. A continuous prerecorded loop is a different operational pattern: you need to test how the video repeats, how interruptions are handled, and whether you intend to create separate events. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that statement should not be extended to promise how a 24-hour or longer broadcast will be archived as a single video. Check the current YouTube guidance and plan your continuity around the behaviour you have tested.
If you are still shaping the channel as well as its live workflow, this guide to starting to create content on YouTube can help distinguish the programme plan from the technical connection. Whichever format you choose, use media you have the right to broadcast. A successful connection only confirms that YouTube is receiving a feed; it does not establish rights to a recording, music or other material in it.
Copy the stream URL and key
Open the stream’s settings in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. The URL is the destination for the encoder. The key identifies the stream configuration to which the encoder should send its output. Copy both values for the specific stream you are setting up rather than borrowing an address from an old tutorial or another channel.
YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in its stream settings guidance. Treat the key accordingly. Do not put it in a public document, chat, screenshot or recording, and do not send it to someone who does not need access. If you think it has been exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio. After a reset, replace the old value in vMix before trying to send the feed again.
You may see a primary or backup server address, depending on the options shown for the stream. Use the URL YouTube displays for the stream and the corresponding key; do not substitute a generic server address from an unrelated configuration. If the provider setup in vMix requests a server URL and a separate stream name or key, the URL goes in the server field and the key goes in the stream-name/key field.
Keep a note of which YouTube event the values belong to, but store the key privately. This small bit of housekeeping matters when you run more than one programme: sending a feed with a key for another event can produce a connection that appears configured but does not match the event you meant to preview.
Open the vMix Streaming window
In vMix, find the Stream button and click the gear icon beside it to open the streaming settings window. This is where you choose the destination method, enter the YouTube details and select output quality. The exact visual arrangement can vary by installed version, so use the labels in your build rather than assuming an older screenshot has identical controls.
Before configuring the destination, check that the intended prerecorded programme is actually the vMix output. If you are playing a file through a vMix input, confirm that it is the input you mean to show and that its audio is present in the mix. RTMP settings cannot correct a muted source, the wrong scene or a file that has ended. A short local preview of the programme can catch these errors before you troubleshoot the network connection.
A prerecorded channel does not change the job of the Streaming window. vMix is sending its programme output as an encoder feed; YouTube receives that feed whether the source is a live camera, a recorded Hindi lesson or a bhajan video. The start, loop and restart behaviour of the source is still worth testing separately in the installed vMix version, especially if an operator will not be present to intervene.
Choose a provider or Custom RTMP Server
If the Streaming window lists YouTube and the provider option is available and works with your account, you can use it. A provider integration may simplify setup by handling some account or destination choices in vMix. Check which account and stream it selects, and verify that its resulting preview is the event you intended. Availability and behaviour can differ by installed build and configuration, so do not assume that every vMix installation shows the same provider path.
If YouTube is unavailable in the list, or you want to enter the endpoint shown in Live Control Room directly, choose Custom RTMP Server. This is the manual route: you supply the URL and key yourself. It is not a Hindi-specific workaround or a different kind of stream; it is simply a way to configure an encoder destination using the values YouTube provides.
The choice is mainly between convenience and explicit control. A provider route can reduce manual entry when its account integration is suitable. Custom RTMP makes the endpoint and key visible in the configuration, which can be useful when you need to match a particular stream exactly. In either case, compare the protocol offered, the account or event selected, and whether YouTube’s preview shows the intended output before you go live.
| Setup path | What you do | Useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Listed YouTube provider | Choose YouTube in vMix and connect or select the destination as prompted | Confirm the intended channel and scheduled stream appear in Live Control Room |
| Custom RTMP Server | Enter the YouTube URL and stream key in vMix yourself | Compare the entered values with the current stream settings, then wait for the preview |
Do not choose a path solely because it has fewer fields. If the provider selection points to the wrong account or event, or the manual endpoint has a mistyped key, the preview is still the necessary confirmation. You can also read the YouTube live settings for a Raspberry Pi FFmpeg playlist for a useful comparison of the general encoder concepts; its software-specific steps are not a replacement for the vMix controls described here.
Enter the URL and stream name or key
With Custom RTMP Server selected, enter the stream URL copied from YouTube in the URL or server address field. Enter the YouTube stream key in the field labelled Stream Name or Key (the wording may vary slightly). Do not add Hindi text, a programme title or another channel identifier to these connection fields unless YouTube itself has included that value in the copied key. Put the programme’s title and language details in the relevant YouTube metadata fields instead.
The URL and key work together, so check both when a connection fails. A URL from one stream paired with another stream’s key is not a substitute for copying the current pair. If you pasted the key, check for an extra space at either end. If you recently reset the key, remove the old one from vMix and enter the replacement. Keep the key private while you do this; it should not be included in screenshots used to ask for support.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension to RTMP, in its encoder settings guidance. Prefer RTMPS if the URL and selected vMix configuration support it. The address displayed for the actual stream is the one to follow: do not change a working endpoint by guessing at a different protocol prefix or editing its address. Once entered, save or apply the settings as the vMix window requires.
The vMix v29 guide describes an FFMPEG installation that supports H.264 video and AAC audio by default. That is a documented baseline for that guide, not a guarantee about every version, selected application or locally changed installation. Confirm the options available in your own build, then match them to the YouTube recommendations and the capacity of the connection carrying the feed.
Choose a suitable quality profile
Select a vMix quality profile that fits the programme’s resolution and frame rate, as well as the reliable outbound upload capacity available to the computer. A higher resolution is not automatically an improvement if the connection cannot sustain the total bitrate. YouTube’s encoder recommendations provide reference points for H.264, including the following bitrate examples:
| Output format | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 5 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 7.5 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p30 | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p60 | 35 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not measured guarantees that a particular connection will hold steady. Its network guidance says outbound upload capacity should exceed the total stream bitrate and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Remember that the total includes audio and any other output demands, and that a speed test taken once does not prove the connection will stay consistent overnight. If you see dropped frames or unstable stream health, reduce the output profile and test again rather than asking a marginal connection to carry more.
YouTube’s guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and recommends H.264, H.265 or AV1 options, among other encoder settings. What vMix exposes depends on the installed version and the streaming application selected. In the vMix v29 guide, the default FFMPEG option provides H.264 video and AAC audio, making those a documented starting point for that setup. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Use the available profile controls to match those recommendations where the selected vMix configuration exposes them; do not invent values for controls you cannot see.
For a Hindi programme, the speech, music and visuals still determine what quality is appropriate. A static image with a bhajan soundtrack may not need the same picture detail as a lesson with Hindi text on screen, where small lettering must remain readable. Test the actual programme at the chosen output size. Check that captions or written material are legible and that voices and music are not distorted. The ingest protocol remains the same, but the useful quality profile depends on the material and the connection.
If your channel is designed around continuous recorded playback, planning a 24/7 stream from recorded lessons is relevant to the programme and continuity decisions beyond this encoder form. For a vMix setup, separately test the source loop and any restart process you intend to use. YouTube also lists cloud-based services for 24/7 prerecorded streaming in its encoder guidance; that is an alternative operating pattern, not a required component of vMix.
Check the outgoing feed in Live Control Room
Start the stream from vMix once the endpoint and profile are set. For a scheduled stream, leave the event open in Live Control Room and wait for the encoder preview to appear. Inspect the image and listen to the audio in that preview. Check that it is the correct programme, that there is no silent or unintended source, and that the stream health information does not show a connection problem. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing the setup and monitoring the stream, including its audio and video.
The preview is a separate checkpoint from the vMix interface saying it has started. vMix can begin sending data while the wrong event is open, the wrong scene is selected, or a key has been entered incorrectly. If the preview does not appear, revisit the exact URL and key pair, confirm the selected event, and check that the outbound connection can sustain the chosen profile. Change one relevant setting at a time so you can tell what resolves the problem.
When a scheduled stream is ready, click Go live in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder and publishing the event are distinct actions in this workflow. Confirm the public page behaves as intended after the final action. For an immediate stream, follow the corresponding on-screen flow in Studio; do not assume that every scheduled event publishes automatically when its encoder first connects.
Once live, monitor the programme rather than only the connection indicator. Check picture, sound, and the content that is currently playing. A prerecorded file can end, repeat unexpectedly or become out of sync, even if the encoder connection stays established. YouTube’s automatically archived guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; for a longer continuous channel, confirm current limits and test your own event and archive workflow rather than treating one long broadcast as guaranteed to become one complete recording.
For a channel expected to run around the clock, consider what happens if the local computer loses power or the internet connection drops. vMix on a local computer gives you control over the production, but its operation depends on that computer and connection remaining available. A cloud-based workflow may remove the need to leave a particular computer running, but you should compare costs, programme control and restart behaviour using current vendor information. StreamNeo can take away the need to keep your own computer running for a prerecorded YouTube broadcast, which is useful when that local-machine dependency is the specific continuity problem you are trying to solve.

FAQ
Does Hindi need a different RTMP URL or key?
No. The reviewed YouTube and vMix encoder instructions use the same URL-and-key procedure for an encoder feed generally, and do not specify a Hindi-only ingest setting. Set language and programme details in the relevant content or stream metadata fields, not by changing the endpoint.
Where do I put the YouTube key in vMix?
Choose Custom RTMP Server when you need to enter the endpoint manually. Put the URL YouTube shows for the stream in the server URL field and its key in Stream Name or Key. Keep the key private, and replace it in vMix if you reset it in YouTube Studio.
Why is the vMix stream not showing in the YouTube preview?
Check that the correct event is open, the URL and key belong together, and the key has not been reset since you copied it. Also check for a pasted space, confirm that vMix is sending the intended output, and make sure the connection can carry the selected profile. Wait for Live Control Room to show the encoder preview before taking the scheduled event live.
Will a scheduled stream go live as soon as vMix starts?
Not necessarily. For a scheduled YouTube event, start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then use its Go live action when you are ready to publish. A scheduled watch page and a connected encoder are not the same as the final publish action.
