If a YouTube playlist has an audio gap, first work out whether the next item never started or playback continued with silence, a pause or buffering. Autoplay and YouTube Mix can keep some kinds of listening moving, but neither guarantees gapless transitions between tracks.

For a fixed playlist, check the queue and the playback device before changing settings. If the item does advance but sound drops out, treat it as a playback or connection problem rather than a playlist-continuation problem.

Identify the kind of gap you hear

Listen for what happens at the moment the sound stops. If the current video ends and the player waits, shows an error or returns to a list without starting another item, the sequence has stopped. If the player visibly moves on but the sound pauses, buffers or disappears briefly, the sequence is continuing while playback is interrupted. A short quiet interval between two tracks may instead be part of the recordings themselves.

These differences matter because the fixes are different. A stopped sequence points towards Autoplay, the current queue, a prompt that needs attention or a device-specific setting. Buffering points towards the connection or playback device. A quiet interval baked into an upload cannot be removed by turning on a YouTube setting.

When the next item does not start, note what the player shows: an ended video, a spinner, an error message or a prompt. Check whether the queue still contains the next item and whether the playlist is set to the order you expect. If a hand-built devotional playlist should move from one bhajan to the next, an unrelated recommendation is not an adequate substitute, even if Autoplay is working as designed.

When sound cuts out, compare the audio with the picture. If both freeze or the player shows a loading indicator, buffering is more likely than a transition gap. If the picture keeps moving while only the sound pauses, test another video and another output device before changing the playlist. If every transition has the same silence, listen to the source files themselves; the silence may be recorded at the start or end of each item.

Make one observation before making changes: record the device, app or browser, whether the video advanced, and whether the picture also stopped. That gives you a simple way to tell whether a change helped. It also prevents you from repeatedly altering the queue when the actual fault is an unstable Wi-Fi connection.

Autoplay and Mix are different tools

Autoplay is intended to start another related video when the current one ends. YouTube’s Autoplay help page explains that its setting can differ by device and that certain inactivity conditions can stop Autoplay. Confirm the control on the device you are actually using; enabling it on a phone does not necessarily mean it is enabled on a television or browser.

Autoplay is useful when you are happy for YouTube to choose a related next video. It is not the same as asking the player to follow a carefully selected track order, and it does not promise a seamless audio transition. If a playlist stops, check Autoplay and the queue, but do not assume the setting will turn a collection of tracks into continuous, crossfaded audio.

YouTube describes a YouTube Mix as a “nonstop playlist tailored to you” and explains how to save a Mix to your library in its Mix help article. That makes a Mix worth trying when you want an ongoing personalised sequence and are comfortable with recommendations. It may not preserve the fixed order of a playlist you curated yourself.

What you want Try Main trade-off
Related videos to continue after one ends Autoplay YouTube selects a related next video; the setting varies by device and can stop during inactivity.
An ongoing personalised listening sequence YouTube Mix YouTube tailors the sequence, so it is not necessarily your chosen track order.
A fixed sequence of selected tracks Your playlist and queue You control the selection and order, but that does not promise gapless sound between items.
Fewer pauses during playback Connection and device checks These can address buffering; they cannot remove silence included in the media.

For a fixed playlist, inspect the queue as well as the saved playlist. YouTube Music’s playlist instructions for computer cover creating and editing playlists, including arranging tracks. Use the available controls to confirm that the expected next item is present and that the order has not changed. Playlist controls determine what plays next; they are not a documented guarantee of crossfade or gapless audio.

If you are testing Autoplay, start with one video and wait for it to end. Then repeat the test on the device where the problem occurs. For a Mix, check that you have opened the intended Mix and saved it if you want to find it again. Keep the goal in mind: these features can continue a sequence in different ways, but neither is a general fix for every kind of silence.

Check the connection and playback device

If the player buffers, freezes or loses sound unexpectedly, check the connection before rebuilding your playlist. YouTube Music’s playback troubleshooting guidance recommends a strong Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection. It gives at least 3 Mbps as a Wi-Fi guideline and recommends at least four bars for mobile connectivity. Those are support recommendations, not thresholds that guarantee uninterrupted playback in every home or on every device.

Try another video over the same connection. If it also buffers, pause other heavy network activity if practical and test nearer to the Wi-Fi router. On mobile data, compare the signal where the device is playing with another location. If the issue appears only on one network, that is useful evidence; it does not prove that the playlist itself is faulty.

Next, check the output device. Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth headphones or speakers, or select the intended output in the device’s sound controls. If possible, play the same section through the built-in speaker or wired headphones. A change in result helps narrow the problem to the output connection rather than YouTube’s choice of next track.

Also check whether the sound drops at the same point on more than one device. Identical silence at the same transition can come from the media or from a consistent edit in the tracks. If one device buffers while another plays the same items normally, focus on the first device’s connection, app or output route. Avoid buying a new router or speaker on the strength of one playback test; the symptoms alone do not establish that any particular product is needed.

For a 24/7 channel, there is another distinction: a viewer hearing a gap in YouTube playback is not necessarily the same as the live broadcast itself stopping. A long broadcast’s monetisation and continuity considerations are a separate operational question. If you are diagnosing your own channel, check the live output and the viewer’s playback separately rather than inferring one from the other.

Restart, update and test again

When the connection looks sound but playback remains unreliable, restart the device. YouTube Music’s troubleshooting guidance includes restarting as a playback step. Close the app or browser, restart the phone, television or computer, then open YouTube again and replay the same test. A restart can clear a temporary device problem; it will not change the order of a playlist or add a transition feature.

Check for available system updates as well. Install an update only through the device’s normal settings, then repeat the same playback test. If you use a browser, test another supported browser or the YouTube app where available. If the problem occurs in only one app or browser, note that before changing other settings. The aim is to isolate the cause, not to make several changes at once and lose track of what mattered.

For a small business, study channel or devotional stream, keep a short test playlist that makes the fault easy to reproduce. Use the same two or three items and listen through the same device each time. Note whether the picture freezes, whether the next item is correct, and whether a restart or update changes the result. If you are preparing a prerecorded stream file rather than listening to a YouTube playlist, check the source and sequence before broadcast; this guide to preparing a static-image video for a 24/7 YouTube radio stream addresses a different kind of continuous playback setup.

A Premium subscription is not a shortcut to diagnosing gaps. YouTube Music’s feature overview lists benefits such as background play, music without ads, audio-only playback and downloads. Those are distinct features, not a promise of crossfade or universal gapless transitions. Feature availability can vary by country or region and account, so check YouTube’s current information for your location if a particular benefit matters to you.

If playback fails only when the device has been left unattended, consider whether an on-screen prompt is waiting. YouTube’s “Continue watching?” explanation describes when that prompt may appear during Autoplay: after 30 minutes of uninterrupted watching on mobile, 60 minutes on web or 180 minutes on TV. These timings describe the prompt behaviour, not a setting for seamless audio. For a long listening session, check the screen occasionally and see whether the player is asking for a response.

Clear the app cache when it fits

Clearing an app cache is worth considering when playback trouble persists in the YouTube Music app after you have checked the connection and restarted the device. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance includes cache clearing. The exact route differs between operating systems and device models, so use the device maker’s current instructions rather than assuming every menu is identical.

Cache is temporary app data. Clearing it may resolve a local app problem, but it is not a method for making consecutive recordings overlap or for correcting silence in a track. After clearing it, reopen the app, sign in if needed, and replay the same test. If the problem remains, compare with YouTube in a browser or on another device to see whether it is limited to the app.

Do not confuse clearing cache with deleting app data or uninstalling the app. Those steps can have different effects, including requiring you to sign in again or restore settings. If you are uncertain which control your device offers, pause and check its official support instructions first. Make a note of anything you may need to restore before proceeding.

If the issue is a playlist that simply ends, cache clearing is unlikely to be the first useful move. Go back to the queue, Autoplay setting or Mix choice. Keeping each fix tied to the observed symptom saves time and makes it easier to explain the issue if you need to contact support.

What official guidance does not promise

YouTube’s help pages explain playlist editing, Autoplay, Mixes and playback troubleshooting. They do not establish that every playlist, app, account and playback device will produce gapless transitions. A player can move to the next track while leaving a brief interval; that is different from crossfade, where one recording fades into the next.

A YouTube Music Community response from a Product Expert in November 2022 discussed gapless playback for Premium users and the absence of crossfade at that time. Treat that as historical community guidance, not confirmation of current behaviour. The available official playlist and feature pages do not turn it into a present-day, platform-wide guarantee. If gapless playback is essential to your use, check the current official feature information for the exact app and device rather than relying on an old forum response.

For a 24/7 YouTube live channel, a playlist inside the YouTube viewer is also not the same thing as a continuous live broadcast built from a sequence of files. If you are trying to keep a stream running overnight, a guide to using VLC for a repeating YouTube Live video in India covers an alternative broadcast workflow. That may suit a fixed repeated file, but it does not make YouTube’s viewer playlist crossfade tracks.

If the real difficulty is keeping a broadcast active while your own computer is off, StreamNeo removes that specific need to leave a personal computer running by taking an uploaded video and running it as a 24/7 YouTube live stream. It is YouTube-only, and it addresses broadcast operation rather than promising gapless transitions between tracks. Check the file and the playback you intend viewers to hear before relying on any continuous-channel setup.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

Why does my playlist stop after one video?

Check that the expected next item is in the queue and that Autoplay is enabled on the device you are using. Autoplay can start a related video, but YouTube documents inactivity behaviour that may stop it; it is not a guarantee of a fixed playlist continuing indefinitely.

Does YouTube Mix provide gapless playback?

YouTube describes Mix as a nonstop playlist tailored to you, which is about an ongoing personalised sequence. That description does not promise crossfade or gapless audio between recordings. Use it when recommendations are acceptable, not when you need a fixed track order or guaranteed seamless transitions.

What should I check if the video plays but the sound pauses?

Try another video on the same connection, then compare the sound on a different output device. If the player buffers or the picture freezes too, follow YouTube Music’s connection and device troubleshooting steps. If silence recurs at the same point between the same tracks, check the recordings themselves.

Does YouTube Music Premium guarantee gapless transitions?

The official feature overview lists benefits including background play, ad-free music, audio-only playback and downloads, but those are not a stated universal gapless-playback guarantee. Check YouTube’s current feature details for your region and account, and do not assume Premium adds crossfade.
