Decide first whether viewers need to see a property as it is now or whether they need a guided presentation that can run repeatedly. A live camera feed shows current conditions, while a prerecorded loop shows selected walkthroughs; the setup, monitoring and viewer expectations are different.

For most property publishers, a recorded walkthrough is easier to operate continuously. A live camera makes sense when current activity matters, but it adds power, network, privacy and on-site monitoring responsibilities that do not disappear because the broadcast is unattended.

Choose the right kind of continuous feed

A live property feed comes from a camera installed at, or pointed towards, the property. It may show a construction site, a model flat, a sales office or a changing view from a development. The picture is genuinely current, so a viewer can see conditions that were not present when the camera was installed.

A prerecorded stream uses one or more completed walkthrough videos. It can present the entrance, rooms, amenities, location footage and contact information in a planned order. The same footage may repeat, but it must not be described as a live view of the property. A loop cannot show that a road is currently open, that a sample flat is currently staffed or that construction has reached a new stage.

Use a live feed when the current view is the product. Examples include a public-facing construction progress camera or a model-home camera operated during agreed viewing hours. Use a recording when the purpose is lead generation, property discovery or a channel that remains available outside office hours.

YouTube’s encoder guidance distinguishes external-camera streaming from cloud tools for prerecorded video. Its guide lists CamStreamer for supported Axis cameras and Gyre for prerecorded streams, while noting that the listed products are not made by YouTube. Treat those entries as categories to investigate rather than as an endorsement, and check current compatibility before committing.

If the content is a playlist of recorded tours, the practical editing and source choices are covered in how to stream a playlist of videos on YouTube with OBS. For a simpler discussion of repeating a prepared file, see how to loop videos in a 24/7 YouTube livestream.

Set up YouTube for an encoder stream

An encoder is YouTube’s documented route when the source is an external camera, a software production setup or a more advanced video arrangement. You first need a channel that is eligible for live streaming and has live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this step until the day of a property launch.

In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Choose a clear title, description, thumbnail and visibility setting. For a listing channel, include the property name, city, broad location, enquiry method and a note explaining whether the video is live or prerecorded. Do not publish an old walkthrough with wording that implies the camera is currently on site.

YouTube then provides the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. The URL is the destination; the key identifies the stream configuration. Treat the key like a password. Do not paste it into a public document, send it in a property listing group or include it in a screen recording. If you think it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

The relevant YouTube pages are Get started with live streaming and Stream using an encoder. Read the current eligibility and setup instructions there before configuring a client’s channel, because account requirements and interface details can change.

For a software encoder, add the camera, video files or both as sources. For a standalone encoder or compatible network camera, enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the device’s streaming settings. The basic connection is the same, but the controls, supported formats and recovery behaviour depend on the equipment.

Build the feed and check the connection

A camera walkthrough needs more than a camera. Plan the camera mount, power supply, weather or dust protection where relevant, audio source, network equipment and a way to reach the equipment if it stops responding. A camera pointed at a property entrance may also capture visitors, neighbours, delivery workers or vehicle number plates, so its field of view is part of the publishing decision.

A computer with a software encoder gives you flexible source control. You can change scenes, add a property map, show contact details or switch from a camera to a prepared information slide. The trade-off is that the computer, operating system, encoder and power supply all become part of the chain that needs attention.

A standalone encoder or supported network camera can reduce the number of separate devices in a fixed installation. It may suit a camera that remains in one place, but compatibility and configuration need checking before purchase. The category alone does not establish how a particular device will perform on a particular broadband connection.

Before going live, use YouTube’s preview in the Live Control Room. Check that the image is framed correctly, the audio is understandable, the property name and contact details are readable, and the watch page opens from a separate device. Watch the feed for long enough to expose obvious problems such as a camera that overheats, a computer that sleeps or audio that gradually falls out of sync.

Do not judge the connection from download speed alone. The important figure for sending a live stream is actual outbound upload capacity. YouTube recommends keeping the chosen stream bitrate below available upload bandwidth with 20% headroom, and it emphasises network reliability. The OBS bitrate guide for Indian broadband can help you think through the sending side, but test the connection at the property rather than relying on a package headline.

Record locally during the test if your setup supports it. Open the resulting file and confirm that it is growing, has usable sound and can be played back. This gives you evidence about what the encoder is actually producing and a fallback copy if YouTube does not create a replay.

Plan for a broadcast that runs continuously

A continuous broadcast is an operating plan, not just a long video. Decide what happens when the broadband connection fails, when the camera loses power, when the encoder restarts, and when the property information needs changing. Write those decisions down before a stream is handed to a client or left overnight.

For a live camera, identify someone who can access the installation or a system that can report failures. A person does not need to watch the screen every minute, but someone must own the response when the picture freezes or the connection drops. Check power, heat, network equipment, storage and physical access as part of the same plan.

For a prerecorded loop, keep the source file and its project notes in more than one location. Add a short holding scene or information card for planned changes rather than leaving an old price or possession date on screen. When a listing is withdrawn, remove or replace its footage promptly. A stream that technically continues can still be operationally wrong if its content is outdated.

The loop order also matters. Put the strongest orientation first, identify the property early, and make contact details visible without covering important features. If several listings are included, use a consistent card between them so viewers understand when one property ends and another begins. Keep music low enough that spoken room descriptions remain clear.

For a channel managed away from the property, the useful distinction is whether a computer must stay powered on. A cloud workflow can remove the need to leave the publisher’s own computer running, but you still need to upload the correct file, protect the stream key and check the public result. StreamNeo is designed for the specific pain of turning an uploaded video into a YouTube broadcast that can continue while your own computer is switched off, with automatic monitoring and restart when the stream drops.

No unattended workflow removes the need to check the content. Schedule a routine review of the public watch page, the current listing details, audio, picture and any local recording. A short inspection before a campaign starts and periodic checks afterwards are more useful than assuming that a stream is healthy because its link still exists.

Understand what YouTube may archive

Do not treat a continuous broadcast as a guaranteed archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a viewer may be able to watch a long-running broadcast without receiving a complete replay afterwards.

The boundary is a YouTube Help statement, not an independent performance measurement. It is also not a promise that every stream below the boundary will be available exactly as you expect. Check the current YouTube guidance on archiving live streams and inspect the actual result after a test broadcast.

If an archive matters, use one of two deliberate approaches. Keep a local recording while the stream runs, or plan shorter sessions whose resulting archives can be checked and labelled. Splitting a programme may make the channel less seamless and requires more publishing work, but it gives you a clearer recording workflow than relying on one very long session.

A local recording also helps when a client asks for a clip of a room, an amenity or a construction stage. Store it securely, name it with the property and capture date, and make clear internally whether it is current. Do not present a local copy as a live recording if it has been edited or captured earlier.

The replay question should be settled before launch. If the marketing team needs a permanent property video, publish a separate edited video as well as any live or continuous stream. If the purpose is only to let viewers find the channel at any hour, an archive may be less important, but you should still tell stakeholders that a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not produce a complete replay.

Use original footage or obtain clear permission for every element you include. That covers the walkthrough images, music, voiceover, logos, photographs, maps, drone footage and any footage supplied by an agent or builder. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide use of live content and to comply with applicable law and territory-specific requirements.

India’s Copyright Act covers cinematograph films and sound recordings, and the Copyright Office describes communication to the public broadly. Limited statutory exceptions should not be treated as general permission to add a popular song to a property tour. Use music with an appropriate licence, commission original audio, or remove it. The Copyright Office’s explanation of the Act is a primary reference, but obtain professional advice when the rights position is unclear.

Get permission from the property owner or authorised representative before filming. Consider residents, tenants, staff, security personnel and visitors who may appear in the frame or be recorded in audio. A camera that shows a neighbouring home, a shared entrance or a public road can create issues that are not solved by adding a disclaimer to the YouTube description.

Aerial footage needs separate attention. The Government of India’s Drone Rules, 2021, with the 2023 amendment are a starting point for operators working in India. They do not decide whether a particular flight, property or filming arrangement is permitted. Check the current requirements for the location and obtain the relevant access and filming permissions before capture.

Do not invent a state-specific RERA statement for a national guide. Property advertising and project disclosures can depend on the project, promoter, location and current rules. Ask the responsible agent, promoter or legal adviser to verify the wording used on screen and in the description, and check the current official sources that apply to the property.

Choose a workflow for your listings

Match the workflow to the job rather than choosing equipment first. A single site camera needs a careful installation and an incident plan. A portfolio of completed tours needs a file library, a content update process and a way to loop or schedule the approved videos.

Publishing need Sensible starting workflow What to verify first
Current construction or model-flat view Camera with an encoder Permission, privacy, power and upload stability
Several completed property tours Prerecorded playlist or loop Rights, current listing details and file order
One office computer used for production Software encoder Sleep settings, restart behaviour and local recording
Fixed camera with minimal local equipment Supported network camera or standalone encoder YouTube compatibility and remote access
Broadcast while the team’s computers are off Cloud-based prerecorded workflow File accuracy, stream-key security and monitoring

If the channel’s purpose is educational or promotional rather than current-event coverage, recorded tours usually give you more control over framing and wording. That does not make them a substitute for a live camera. Label them honestly as walkthrough videos and update them when the property changes.

If the camera must remain online at a remote site, a system that can restart after a disconnect becomes important. You can review the practical failure points in how to restart a YouTube live stream automatically after a disconnect. The article is useful for planning recovery, but it does not remove the need to test the actual camera, encoder and network together.

For a business channel, keep the operating owner separate from the person who created the original video. The owner should know which property is on air, where the approved files are stored, how to rotate the stream key and who can respond to a complaint. This avoids a common failure mode in which a campaign continues after the listing details have changed.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

Can I run a prerecorded property walkthrough on YouTube all day?

You can create a continuous broadcast from prerecorded material, but it remains a recording and should be labelled honestly. Prepare the files, connect the chosen workflow to YouTube, test the public watch page and plan how listing information will be updated.

Is a live camera better than a recorded loop?

Neither is universally better. A live camera is appropriate when current conditions matter; a recorded loop is easier when you need a controlled presentation of several properties or want to operate without equipment at the site.

Will YouTube save the complete 24-hour stream?

Do not rely on that. YouTube says a stream over 12 hours may not be archived, so keep a local recording or use planned shorter sessions if a replay is important.

What should I check before filming a property in India?

Confirm permission to film and publish the property, clear the rights to music and other inserted material, and consider people or neighbouring premises captured by the camera. If drones or local regulatory matters are involved, check the current official requirements for that location rather than assuming a general guide settles them.
