Watch hours

How long to
4,000 watch hours?

One multiplication, done honestly: your average concurrent viewers times the hours you stay live.

This is the one calculation an always-on stream changes completely: you stop needing views and start needing hours, and hours are just viewers multiplied by time.

if viewers hold

At 10 average concurrent viewers streaming 24 hours a day, you earn about 240.0 watch hours daily and 7,200 a month. The remaining 4,000 hours would take roughly 17 days — around 25 Aug 2026 — if your viewer numbers hold.

Same viewers, fewer hours live

Your viewer count held constant — only the hours change.

The same 4,000 hours from ordinary uploads means 240,000 minutes of watch time — about 60,000 views at your 4-minute average view length. That gap is the entire argument for an always-on stream, and it is arithmetic rather than marketing.

Under the hood

How this is calculated

The whole formula

Watch hours per day = average concurrent viewers × hours broadcast. Ten people watching a 24-hour stream is 240 watch hours a day. There is no hidden multiplier in this tool, because there is none in the arithmetic.

Where to get your viewer number

YouTube Studio reports average concurrent viewers for a live stream. Use that figure, not peak — peak flatters you and produces a date you will miss.

Why 24/7 changes the maths

The comparison table holds your viewer count still and only changes the hours. Cutting from 24 hours to 8 does not reduce your progress by a third of the effort — it triples the calendar time.

The uploads comparison

The same 4,000 hours from ordinary uploads needs 240,000 minutes of watch time. Divide that by your average view length and you get the number of views required. You set the view length, so the number is yours, not ours.

FAQ

Questions about this tool

Do watch hours from a live stream count the same as from uploads?

Valid public watch time counts towards the Partner Programme threshold whether it came from a live stream or an upload. What differs is how easily you accumulate it — a stream that is live all day can gather hours from a handful of viewers.

Why does the tool ask for average concurrent viewers and not views?

Because the threshold is measured in hours, and hours come from people watching at the same time for a length of time. Views tell you nothing about duration; concurrents multiplied by hours is exactly the quantity being counted.

Is 4,000 hours the only requirement?

No. You also need 1,000 subscribers, and there is an alternative Shorts path of 10,000,000 valid public Shorts views in 90 days. Our monetisation checker walks through all of them.

Can I just leave a stream running with nobody watching?

No. Hours only accrue while real people are watching. A stream with zero viewers earns zero watch hours however long it runs, which is why this page returns nothing when you enter zero viewers.

What this tool cannot tell you

Every calculator on the internet hides its assumptions. Here are ours, in the open.

  • Only valid public watch time counts towards the Partner Programme. Private, unlisted and deleted content does not, and neither does anything YouTube judges invalid.

  • Watch hours are counted over a rolling 12-month window. Hours earned earlier than that drop off the back, so a very slow climb can stall short of the target even while the total keeps rising.

  • The projected date assumes your average concurrent viewers stay flat for the whole period. Real channels rise and fall, so treat it as arithmetic on today's numbers, not a forecast.

  • Hitting the numbers is necessary but not sufficient. Subscribers, country availability, channel policies, no active strikes and an AdSense account all matter, and none of them are in this calculation.

  • We make no promise about your growth or your earnings. This tool only does the multiplication you could do yourself — its value is that it does not pretend to do more.
