A Restream Playlist lets you assemble recorded videos into a scheduled YouTube live broadcast. From Restream’s home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist, arrange the videos, and schedule the event with YouTube selected as a destination.

The scheduled event post and the playlist’s playback are related but distinct. The event post is the advance-facing YouTube listing; the playlist is the prerecorded programme that Restream starts at the scheduled time. Check the timing, total video length, and any event-post settings before you circulate the link.

What Restream’s Playlist feature does

Restream’s Playlist feature takes a sequence of video files and broadcasts that sequence as a prerecorded livestream. The show is assembled before airtime, rather than being a live production in which you switch between prerecorded clips and a person or camera. Restream says the scheduled playlist starts automatically at the selected time, even when your laptop is switched off. See Restream’s playlist instructions for the current interface and workflow.

That distinction matters if your plan is to run a devotional programme overnight, a study session, or a local news package. You can prepare the sequence and schedule its start, but the playlist feature does not currently blend prerecorded videos with live content. If you need to interrupt a recording to speak live, this workflow is not the right format for that particular broadcast.

Nor should you assume that a scheduled Playlist is an endlessly repeating 24/7 channel. The documented workflow is for a scheduled prerecorded event, subject to the plan’s library and duration limits. Restream’s plan information describes looping availability for certain tiers, but that is not a reason to infer an unlimited run or a restart behaviour beyond what its current documentation states. If you need recurring broadcasts, first understand the difference between a scheduled event and a recurring operation in a guide to scheduling recurring prerecorded livestreams.

This guide focuses on the practical sequence: make the programme, schedule its YouTube event, and check what the viewer-facing post represents. Restream’s buttons and terms may change, so use the official Help Center pages linked here as the authority for the current account interface.

Before you begin: files, channel and event details

Collect the video files and decide the order before opening the scheduling form. A playlist can be made from existing videos in your Restream library or by uploading files. Have the intended title, description, thumbnail, start time and time zone ready as well. This reduces the chance of finishing the media setup but delaying the event while you work out what to tell viewers.

Check the combined duration against the video-library allowance on the Restream plan you intend to use. The relevant constraint is not simply the number of clips: the playlist must fit the documented library duration and the files must be available in the account. Plan details can change. Restream Help Center plan details accessed October 3, 2026 list Premier at $39/month with a two-hour video library and 1080p maximum, Marathon at $79/month with a four-hour library and 1080p maximum, and Media at $239/month with a 12-hour library and 4K maximum. Verify the current plan page before choosing; these are vendor specifications, not a promise about a stream’s performance.

Also check that YouTube streaming is enabled for the channel connected to Restream. Restream’s YouTube instructions say the person connecting a channel must be its owner, and that first-time streaming requires phone verification followed by a 24-hour wait. If this is a new channel setup, leave room for that requirement before you announce a specific airtime. See Restream’s YouTube channel setup guide and check YouTube’s own current requirements before relying on a date.

A scheduled YouTube event can be useful when you want viewers to see an event listing before the programme begins. It is not the same as simply making a video available on demand. Decide whether advance discovery and an event link are important, then check that the event option is available for the YouTube channel you are connecting.

If you are comparing a hosted prerecorded workflow with keeping a local machine on all night, factor in the operational difference rather than only the upload step. Local encoding has its own power and restart considerations; this overview of running a YouTube channel with your PC switched off explains the broader trade-off without treating a scheduled playlist as a continuous channel.

Create a Playlist from the Restream home screen

Sign in to Restream and start at the home screen. Select Pre-recorded livestream, then select Playlist. The Playlist choice is the important one: a single prerecorded event and a sequence of videos are different workflows, even though both use recorded media.

Restream’s interface may offer you existing items from the video library as well as the option to upload files. Select the videos intended for this event and continue to the playlist editor. If a file is missing, check that it has finished uploading and is available in the library before assuming the playlist has lost it. Avoid building the event around a file that is still transferring or whose final version you have not checked.

The workflow can also include a countdown and presentation customisation. Decide whether those elements serve the programme rather than adding them by habit. A countdown gives viewers a transition before the first item; a title card, caption or QR code may provide context, but it also becomes part of what people see. Previewing the assembled stream is a sensible point to catch an accidental blank opening or an outdated graphic.

Once the sequence is ready, use the preview if available, then choose Schedule. Enter event details and make sure the YouTube channel is enabled as a destination. Restream’s scheduling guide explains its scheduling flow; follow the live labels in your account if they differ from an older help article.

Treat the scheduled start as the broadcast start, not as a cue for you to press play manually on your own computer. The advantage of this workflow is that Restream handles the scheduled prerecorded start. Your responsibility is to get the files, destination, event information and time right before that point.

Add videos and arrange their order

Choose the clips in the intended programme and drag and drop them into sequence. Do not rely on the order in which files happen to appear in the library or were uploaded. A short opening slate followed by a longer talk, for example, should be arranged deliberately so the first thing viewers encounter matches the event promise.

Review the sequence from beginning to end. Check that the final clip belongs in the programme, that no duplicate was added, and that the transition between adjacent files will make sense to an audience. If you have added a countdown, consider whether its duration and design lead into the first video cleanly. The preview is useful for reviewing the constructed stream, though it cannot substitute for checking the source files themselves for sound, picture and rights.

The playlist can be adjusted before scheduling. If you need to add further videos or change the order, do that in the editor, then preview again. For a small channel, this is often where a second person can help: one person checks the programme order against the schedule, while another checks the title and event details against what will be announced.

A key distinction is between a rotation designed to repeat and this scheduled playlist workflow. Do not infer from the word “Playlist” that videos automatically play forever or that the end of one sequence hands off to another event. If your goal is changing a running rotation, see the separate problem of updating a video rotation without stopping a stream. That is not the same as scheduling an advance YouTube event in Restream.

Create an event post in advance

When you schedule, enter the event title and description with the viewer in mind. Name the programme clearly, put the start time and relevant context where viewers can find them, and ensure that the thumbnail represents this particular broadcast. The YouTube event guidance says titles can be up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000 characters, and recommends a 1280 × 720 thumbnail; check the current Restream YouTube event guide before preparing assets because platform details can change.

Restream documents an option to create an event post in advance for supported destinations, including YouTube. The setting has to be enabled during event creation. Its guide warns that if you omit the advance-post choice, you may need to delete and recreate the event to enable it. Do not assume the setting can always be retrofitted after you have shared a link.

After scheduling, locate the playlist and use the YouTube channel link shown with its channel icons if you want to share the YouTube event in advance. Check the link in a browser where you are not signed in, or ask someone else to confirm that it opens the intended event page. This is a simple way to catch a copied channel URL or an event that is not the one you meant to promote.

The post and the broadcast are not interchangeable. The post gives the audience an event listing ahead of the stream; at the scheduled time, the playlist is what Restream sends as the prerecorded livestream. Sharing the event link does not mean the videos have already begun playing, and creating an event post should not be mistaken for proof that the playlist content has been reviewed.

A further clean-up point matters if plans change. Restream says unscheduling an event does not necessarily remove its announcement post from YouTube; the YouTube post may need to be removed directly on YouTube. If you cancel or replace an event, check the public listing and clean up the old post before promoting a replacement. This avoids leaving viewers with two different notices.

What viewers see and what happens at airtime

Before the start, viewers may be able to open the scheduled YouTube event page and see its event details. What they can do with that page, including notifications, depends on YouTube’s current event behaviour and the viewer’s own settings. Do not promise that everyone who sees or visits the link will receive a notification. Describe it as an advance event link, and ask viewers to check the channel or event page for current information.

At the scheduled time, Restream says the video files and playlists go live automatically. This is the point at which the assembled prerecorded programme is broadcast as a live stream, even though the footage was recorded earlier. For a viewer, the distinction is usually conveyed by the event’s live presentation and the programme itself; be transparent in the description if that matters to your audience.

The laptop-off convenience is specific: the schedule does not require your own computer to stay awake and manually play the sequence. It does not remove the need to prepare the media, connect the correct YouTube channel, verify the event details, or check that the programme fits the documented limits. StreamNeo removes the separate burden of keeping a personal computer available for a prerecorded YouTube broadcast by letting you upload a file and schedule a cloud-run stream, but its service is YouTube-only and is a different workflow from Restream’s Playlist feature.

You can reschedule or unschedule a playlist from its playlist card according to Restream’s guide. A live playlist can be stopped from its stream view. If a start time changes, make the change in Restream and then check the YouTube event post itself; a change to the schedule and the public announcement are related tasks, not a reason to assume every public detail updated as you intended.

A YouTube event should not be used casually as a rehearsal. Restream’s event guide says a YouTube event can only be gone live to once. Use preview and file checks before airtime rather than starting the actual event early to see whether it works. For any event created in YouTube instead of Restream, follow the documented existing-event selection route and check compatibility before building the schedule around it.

Playlist limits and back-to-back scheduling

The first constraint to verify is total library duration. Restream’s prerecorded-event guide lists plan-dependent storage and resolution ceilings. As listed in Restream Help Center plan details accessed October 3, 2026, Premier is $39/month with a two-hour video library and 1080p maximum; Marathon is $79/month with a four-hour library and 1080p maximum; Media is $239/month with a 12-hour library and 4K maximum. These prices and limits may change, so confirm the current terms on Restream’s site before selecting a plan. Restream says looping is available with Marathon and Media, but do not extend that statement into a claim that every playlist can run continuously or restart forever.

The second constraint is timing. Allow enough room for the complete programme within the documented limits, and schedule the event at the time you intend the stream to start. If your playlist contains several talks, add their durations rather than estimating by the number of files. A sequence of short items can still exceed the allowance, while a smaller number of long files may fit poorly. Verify your final selection in Restream before sharing the event link.

Back-to-back scheduling deserves particular care. Do not assume that a second Playlist can begin at the exact instant the first one ends, or that one event will automatically hand off to another. Restream’s documentation does not give a blanket guarantee of gapless transitions or unrestricted back-to-back scheduling. Leave a practical buffer if the audience can tolerate one, and verify with Restream’s current instructions or support if your plan depends on consecutive events with no gap. Publish separate, accurate event details rather than implying that a single link represents a continuous channel.

There is also a format limit: a Playlist is prerecorded-only, not a way to insert a live introduction or switch midway into a live camera feed. If your programme needs host interaction between recorded segments, plan a different production format. Similarly, if you need a continuous loop or recurring schedule, verify the exact supported behaviour and tier in the current documentation rather than extrapolating from the word “looping.”

Finally, event-post availability is not universal across destinations. Restream lists Facebook profiles and pages, YouTube, LinkedIn and X as destinations with advance event posts. For YouTube, switch the event-post option on while creating the event. Keep a note of the post’s URL and the scheduled time, and check both after any reschedule or cancellation. The YouTube event setup guide is the place to verify the current steps.

If you need a stream that stays running after a playlist finishes, that is a different operational question from scheduling an event. Do not treat a playlist’s end behaviour as a substitute for an always-on plan. A separate guide on what happens when a YouTube stream’s playlist ends can help you think through that distinction.

FAQ

Does a Restream Playlist start automatically?

Restream says a scheduled video Playlist airs automatically at its selected time, without your laptop needing to remain on. You still need to prepare the files, select YouTube as a destination and check the event details before the scheduled start.

No. The link can point viewers to the scheduled YouTube event post in advance, while the playlist is the sequence that is broadcast at airtime. Check the public event page after scheduling, and do not promise notification behaviour that YouTube has not documented for your particular audience.

Can I mix live footage into the prerecorded Playlist?

Restream’s documented Playlist feature does not currently blend prerecorded videos with live content. If you need a live introduction or a camera segment between recordings, choose a different production workflow rather than expecting to switch formats inside the Playlist.

Can I schedule playlists back to back or loop one forever?

Do not assume a gapless handoff or an endless restart. Restream describes looping availability for certain plans, but you should verify the current plan terms and exact duration behaviour before making that the basis of an event schedule.
