To verify an Indian phone number for YouTube, open YouTube Studio and use Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Intermediate features → VERIFY PHONE NUMBER, or visit youtube.com/verify in a browser. Choose text or voice call, receive YouTube’s code, and enter it to complete phone verification.

Verification enables intermediate features, including live streaming, but it does not guarantee immediate access to every way of streaming. YouTube checks other requirements too, and mobile, webcam, encoder and console streams can have different conditions.

Why phone verification matters for live streaming

YouTube uses your phone number to send a verification code and help grant access to channel features. For a creator preparing a live channel, phone verification is one necessary account step: it can enable intermediate features, which include live streaming. It is not a general approval for every broadcast format or a substitute for checking your channel’s eligibility.

The distinction matters when you are planning a launch. You might complete phone verification and still find that a live-stream option is unavailable, or that one method is available while another has additional requirements. The eligibility screen and YouTube’s current help pages are better guides than assuming that a successful code means every live feature is ready.

For India-based channels, YouTube also describes a phone-verified label that can appear on the channel’s About page and be visible to YouTube users in India. YouTube describes this label as voluntary; do not confuse it with a separate promise of streaming access. The same phone verification process provides access to intermediate features, but other live-stream checks still apply. Read YouTube’s India-specific phone verification guidance if you want to understand that label as well as the verification route.

You do not need to buy a new phone or a particular accessory just to perform this step. You need access to a number that can receive YouTube’s text or voice call. If you are setting up a continuous devotional or music channel, account verification and the choice of how to keep the stream running are separate decisions. The practical setup questions in running a 24/7 bhajan stream from a laptop concern the broadcast itself, not the phone code.

Verify in YouTube Studio

On a computer, sign in to the Google account that manages the YouTube channel you want to use. Open YouTube Studio, select Settings, then Channel, and open Feature eligibility. Under Intermediate features, select VERIFY PHONE NUMBER. YouTube’s help page on feature access gives the current account-feature context; menu labels can change, so check the page if your screen differs.

Enter the phone number you want to use and choose the country or region as prompted. Make sure the number is entered in a form YouTube accepts, including the correct country selection for India. Then choose whether YouTube should send a text or place a voice call. Enter the code on the verification screen rather than sharing it with another person.

Check that you are working in the intended channel. People who manage several channels under one Google account can easily verify the wrong one, especially when switching between brand accounts. Before requesting a code, confirm the channel name or icon in Studio and make sure the feature-eligibility page belongs to that channel.

If the verification option is missing, first confirm that you are signed in to the channel owner or an account with the permissions needed to manage channel settings. Then revisit Feature eligibility and look specifically under Intermediate features. Do not infer that an absent button means the channel is already ready to stream; use the eligibility page and official help to establish what the channel can access.

After submitting the code, return to Feature eligibility and look for the resulting status. The goal is to confirm that intermediate features are enabled for the intended channel, not merely to see that a code was sent. If YouTube displays a problem or asks for another step, follow the message shown there. Avoid repeatedly requesting codes without first checking whether the previous attempt has completed.

Use youtube.com/verify

YouTube’s India-focused help also gives a browser route: open youtube.com/verify, sign in if prompted, choose how to receive the code, and enter the six-digit code. This can be a direct way to reach the verification flow when you are already working in a browser and do not want to navigate through Studio menus.

Use the same Google account and channel that you intend to stream from. If the page asks you to select a channel or account, pause to confirm the selection rather than assuming the browser has carried over the right one. When you manage a channel for a business, temple, school or community group, make sure the channel itself is selected, not a personal channel attached to the same login.

The browser route and Studio route are not two different levels of verification. They are ways to reach the phone-verification process. If one route sends you back to Studio or presents a slightly different screen, complete the on-screen steps and then check the channel’s Feature eligibility page to confirm the outcome.

Keep the verification page open only as long as needed and enter the code there. A code is for confirming control of the number, not for giving to someone offering to verify the channel on your behalf. If a message or call arrives later than expected, wait and check that you are still on the official YouTube flow before requesting another code.

Choose text or voice call and enter the code

Text is a straightforward first choice if your number can receive SMS from Google. If the message does not arrive, allow for a delay, then try the voice-call option where it is offered. YouTube says delivery can be delayed and notes that some operators may not support messages or calls from Google. A different delivery method, or a number with an operator that supports the message or call, may be needed.

Method When it may suit you What to do if it fails
Text message Your number receives ordinary SMS and you can read messages on that handset Wait briefly, check the number and country selection, then try voice call if available
Voice call SMS is delayed or your operator does not deliver the text Keep the phone available to answer, listen for the code, and enter it in the official verification flow
Another supported number or operator Neither text nor call reaches the current number Use a number you control that can receive Google’s message or call, and check the channel-association limit

Enter the code exactly as received. If it expires or the page rejects it, request a new code through the official screen and use the latest one. Do not rely on a code from an earlier attempt if you have since asked for another. If repeated attempts fail, check for a mistyped number, an incorrect country selection, blocked or filtered messages, and whether the operator supports Google’s calls or messages.

YouTube says a phone number can be associated with no more than two channels per year. If the page reports that the number has reached its channel limit, changing text to voice delivery will not address that issue. Use another number you control if appropriate, or consult YouTube’s help rather than cycling through requests on the same number. The limit is a YouTube account rule, not a reason to obtain a number from an unofficial verification service.

Once the code is accepted, verify the channel status in Studio. Keep a note of which channel was verified if you manage more than one, but do not store or share the code itself. Verification confirms that you could receive the code; it does not transfer channel ownership or settle copyright, content or broadcast questions.

Check feature eligibility after verification

Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and inspect the status of Intermediate features. Phone verification should be understood as enabling that feature tier, which includes live streaming. If the status has not changed, refresh the page, check that you verified the correct channel and review any message displayed. You can also reopen YouTube’s feature-access help for the latest explanation of channel tiers.

Do not treat access to intermediate features as access to every advanced feature. YouTube describes a progression in which phone verification comes first, while channel history or identity verification may be relevant for advanced features where those options are available. Other features can have their own eligibility rules. A phone-verified label on an India-based channel is not a substitute for those separate checks.

Also identify the kind of live stream you plan to run. Computer streaming, including a stream sent through an encoder, does not have exactly the same requirements as broadcasting from the YouTube mobile app. If you are building a scheduled loop from recorded material, your account eligibility is only one part of the setup; encoder configuration and a stable source are separate tasks. For example, YouTube encoder settings for Indian music streaming addresses the broadcast configuration rather than phone verification.

If you expect to run a long programme, test the stream method before announcing a start time. A verified number cannot resolve an encoder that is not sending a signal, an unsuitable video file, or an internet connection that drops. The bitrate and x264 configuration guide is useful only if you are using that kind of encoder workflow; it is not required to complete phone verification.

Other live-stream eligibility requirements

YouTube’s general live-stream guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also states that users must be at least 16 years old to live stream. These requirements are separate from receiving a phone code. Check the official live-streaming help page for the current rules and the status shown for your own channel.

Mobile live streaming has additional conditions. YouTube’s help says a channel needs at least 50 subscribers, live streaming must be turned on, and first-time mobile access may take up to 24 hours to become available. These apply to the mobile route described by YouTube; do not assume that a subscriber threshold for mobile applies identically to every other way of sending a live stream. Consult the mobile live streaming requirements before planning a phone-based broadcast.

What you are checking Why it matters Where to confirm
Phone verification Enables intermediate features, including live streaming Studio Feature eligibility or youtube.com/verify
Recent live-stream restrictions YouTube’s general eligibility guidance includes a restriction-free period Channel status and YouTube’s live-stream help
Age requirement YouTube’s general help states a minimum age for live streaming Current YouTube live-stream help
Mobile-specific access Mobile has additional conditions, including subscriber and activation requirements YouTube’s mobile live-stream help
Broadcast method Mobile, webcam, encoder and console workflows do not have identical setup steps The help for the method you intend to use

The practical sequence is to verify the channel, check its eligibility status, then confirm the requirements for your intended method. If you will use a webcam or encoder, read the relevant YouTube instructions and test privately or with an unlisted stream where suitable before relying on a public launch. If you will use mobile, check the subscriber and activation conditions first. Neither route should be treated as ready just because the phone number accepted a code.

For an always-on channel, deciding how the stream continues when your personal computer is off is a separate operating question. StreamNeo can remove the need to leave your own computer running by turning an uploaded video into a YouTube live stream after you provide the channel’s stream key; it does not replace YouTube’s verification or eligibility checks. A channel using any operating method still needs to satisfy YouTube’s current rules and should confirm its feature status before scheduling a launch.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

Does verifying an Indian phone number let me stream immediately?

It enables intermediate features, including live streaming, but it does not guarantee immediate access to every live-stream method. YouTube also checks channel eligibility, recent restrictions and age, and mobile streaming has additional requirements. Check Studio and the help page for the method you intend to use.

Should I use YouTube Studio or youtube.com/verify?

Both routes lead to phone verification. Studio provides the channel’s Feature eligibility context, while youtube.com/verify is a direct browser route described in YouTube’s India guidance. After either route, check the intended channel’s status in Studio.

What if I do not receive the code?

Wait briefly in case delivery is delayed, then try a voice call if it is available. Check that the number and country selection are correct and that your operator supports messages or calls from Google. If the number has reached YouTube’s channel-association limit, use an appropriate supported number you control rather than repeating the same attempt.

Does phone verification unlock advanced features as well?

No. Phone verification gives access to intermediate features; advanced features can involve channel history or identity verification where YouTube offers those options, and individual features may have separate rules. Review Feature eligibility and YouTube’s current help rather than assuming one code clears every requirement.
