Start by selecting the exact YouTube channel that should broadcast, then verify that channel in YouTube Studio. A Brand Account owner or manager can complete the phone verification, but the person doing it must be working inside the correct channel.

After verification, YouTube checks the channel’s live-streaming eligibility. General live streaming and mobile live streaming are not identical: mobile streaming has an additional requirement of at least 50 subscribers, and the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available.

Select the correct Brand Account channel

A Google Account can manage more than one YouTube channel. That is useful for a devotional channel, a local news channel and a business channel under one login, but it also creates the easiest way to verify the wrong channel.

Before opening settings, look at the channel name and profile image shown in YouTube. Do not rely only on the Google Account email address. The live-streaming feature belongs to the selected YouTube channel, not simply to the person who happens to be signed in.

To check the selection:

  1. Open YouTube or YouTube Studio while signed in to the relevant Google Account.
  2. Use the account or channel switcher.
  3. Select the Brand Account channel that will host the live broadcast.
  4. Confirm the channel name and image in Studio before changing any settings.

If you manage several channels, write down the exact channel name before starting. For example, “Morning Bhajan Live” and “Morning Bhajan Clips” may belong to the same person but have separate channel settings. Verifying the clips channel will not enable live streaming on the live channel.

It is also worth checking that your planned content belongs on this channel. If you are preparing an always-on music or devotional broadcast, the 24/7 live stream ideas guide can help you decide whether the channel should be a continuous station, a scheduled programme or a series of separate broadcasts before you complete the setup.

YouTube’s screens can change. If a menu label differs from the wording below, use the current feature-eligibility area in YouTube Studio rather than assuming that a similar-looking option belongs to the same channel.

Check owner or manager access

Brand Account access and YouTube channel permissions are related, but they are not the same question as phone verification. You need to know both who can verify the channel and who will operate the stream afterwards.

YouTube says Brand Account owners and managers can verify a phone number for a channel. Separately, YouTube’s channel-permissions guidance lists Owners and Managers as roles that can manage live streams. This does not mean that every delegated role can complete every setup action.

Use the smallest role that supports the work. A person preparing a broadcast may need to schedule or manage a live stream, while another person may remain responsible for ownership and access decisions. Avoid sharing the Google Account password. YouTube recommends using channel permissions for collaborators, so each person works through their own account.

Role or access situation What it means for this setup Sensible action
Brand Account owner Can verify the channel by phone and can manage live streams Use this role for ownership decisions and recovery planning
Brand Account manager Can verify the channel by phone and can manage live streams Confirm the selected channel before verification
Other delegated access Capabilities depend on the assigned permissions Check the current permissions table before relying on the role
Several people using one Google login Makes the active channel and responsibility unclear Stop sharing credentials and assign channel permissions

A manager who can operate a broadcast should still check that the selected channel is the intended Brand Account. A role does not protect you from changing the wrong channel’s settings.

For a team running a continuous broadcast, decide who owns the channel, who can start or stop the stream, and who can recover access. These are operational decisions rather than a substitute for YouTube’s eligibility checks.

Verify the channel by phone in YouTube Studio

Open YouTube Studio for the selected Brand Account channel. Go to Settings, then the channel feature or eligibility area. YouTube’s phone-verification flow is shown there when the channel needs verification.

Follow the current on-screen process and provide a phone number that can receive YouTube’s verification code. Complete the code entry while the correct channel remains selected. If you open Studio in several browser tabs, check the channel identity again before submitting the form.

Phone verification is a channel-level step. It is not enough that your Google Account has been used for another verified YouTube channel. The channel that will host the live stream must be the one whose feature status you are checking.

YouTube lists live streaming among the channel features made available by phone verification. That makes verification an important part of enabling the feature, but it is not a promise that every streaming method will be available immediately or that other restrictions do not apply.

If the verification prompt does not appear, check these points first:

  • Is Studio showing the intended Brand Account channel?
  • Are you signed in as an owner or manager with the necessary access?
  • Did the verification code complete successfully?
  • Are you looking at the current channel feature or eligibility page rather than a different account setting?

If the menu wording has changed, use YouTube’s official feature-verification guidance as the reference, then follow the links from that page into the current Studio interface.

Do not keep submitting verification for different channels just to see which one accepts it. First identify the channel that should carry the audience, archive and live-stream history. Correcting a mistaken channel choice later can be more disruptive than taking a few minutes to confirm it now.

Confirm live-streaming eligibility

After phone verification, check the live-streaming status for the selected channel. YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements include a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says creators must be at least 16 years old to live stream.

These checks are separate from your Brand Account role. Being an owner or manager gives you authority to carry out certain actions, but it does not remove a restriction on the channel or change the age requirement.

A channel can therefore have a verified phone number and still be unable to start a broadcast. If YouTube shows a restriction or an unavailable feature, read the notice attached to that channel. Do not assume that verifying the number again will resolve a restriction.

The key distinction is this:

Check Applies to general live streaming Applies specifically to mobile streaming
Channel verification Yes Yes
No live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days Yes Yes
Minimum age of 16 to live stream Yes Yes
At least 50 subscribers Not listed as a general requirement for webcam, encoder or console methods Yes
First-use activation delay of up to 24 hours Not a universal rule for every method May apply to the first mobile stream

Do not apply the mobile subscriber threshold to every kind of YouTube live stream. YouTube presents webcam, encoder and console streaming as separate methods, and the mobile instructions add their own conditions.

If a scheduled devotional loop, news digest or study station will run from a computer or an encoder, examine the requirements for that method instead of treating the mobile page as the universal rule. You can later review the YouTube Live Control Room workflow when you are ready to configure the broadcast itself.

Enable live streaming and allow for activation

Once the channel is verified and eligible, use YouTube Studio to enable live streaming or open the live-streaming workflow. The exact button text may vary by account and interface version, so use the current eligibility page and the live control room as your guide.

Activation is not necessarily immediate. YouTube may need time to make the feature available, and mobile streaming has a specific warning that the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours. Treat that as a possible waiting period rather than planning a broadcast that depends on access appearing at a particular minute.

This matters when you have announced a launch time. Verify the channel before publishing a poster, sending a WhatsApp message or promising viewers that a station will begin that evening. If the channel is new to live streaming, leave time to see the eligibility result and resolve any notice shown in Studio.

Choose the method that matches the equipment and the work you actually want to do:

  • Webcam: suitable for a presenter at a computer, with a computer and webcam required for this method.
  • Encoder: suitable for a prepared video file, scene layout, camera input or more involved production setup.
  • Console: suitable when the content is being streamed directly from a supported gaming console.
  • Mobile: convenient for broadcasts made from a phone, but subject to the separate mobile requirements.

For a pre-recorded programme from a computer, an encoder can provide more control than a webcam workflow. If you are testing a file-based broadcast, the OBS connection guide for a pre-recorded stream explains the next stage after the channel is eligible.

The enablement step only makes the channel able to live stream. It does not choose your title, privacy setting, thumbnail, stream key, content rights, moderation plan or restart procedure. Prepare those separately. In particular, make sure you control the rights to music, spoken material, images and other recordings before sending a continuous stream to YouTube.

For a long-running broadcast where your own computer should not have to remain switched on, StreamNeo removes the specific burden of leaving the playback machine running: upload the video once, provide the YouTube stream key, and let the broadcast run while the service monitors and restarts it if it drops. That does not replace channel eligibility or content checks, and it is intended for YouTube rather than other platforms.

Check mobile streaming requirements separately

Mobile live streaming is not simply the general live-streaming feature viewed on a smaller screen. YouTube’s mobile guidance adds requirements that do not apply in the same way to webcam, encoder or console streaming.

For mobile streaming, the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days, and must have at least 50 subscribers. Mobile live streaming must also be turned on, and YouTube says the first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to become available.

That subscriber requirement should not be used to conclude that a new channel cannot live stream at all. If the channel has fewer than 50 subscribers, consider whether webcam, encoder or console streaming fits the broadcast instead. The method you choose changes the equipment and eligibility path.

A phone is useful for a local report, a temple event or a live presenter moving between locations. It is less naturally suited to a fixed, uninterrupted music or ambience station, where battery, network changes and accidental interruptions become part of the operating risk. A computer or encoder workflow may be more appropriate for that use, provided the channel meets the general requirements.

Before relying on mobile access, check all of the following in the current YouTube guidance:

  1. The selected channel is the intended Brand Account channel.
  2. The channel is verified.
  3. The channel has no live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days.
  4. The channel has at least 50 subscribers.
  5. Mobile live streaming has been turned on.
  6. You have allowed up to 24 hours for first-use availability if YouTube requires it.

Do not treat a mobile approval screen as proof that an encoder or webcam configuration is ready. Those workflows have their own setup steps, including the equipment and software needed to send the broadcast.

The current YouTube mobile live-streaming requirements should be your final check because YouTube can change interface wording and account conditions. If your launch depends on mobile streaming, test the selected channel before the event rather than discovering the delay when you are ready to go live.

Prepare the first broadcast after access is enabled

Once live streaming is available, create a small test broadcast before attempting an overnight or 24/7 channel. Use an unlisted stream if that suits your testing plan, confirm that the picture and sound arrive correctly, and watch the output from another device.

For a scheduled stream, check the title, description, visibility and start time. Confirm that the correct channel name appears in the live control room. A good test should answer practical questions: does the video continue when the browser is closed, does the audio loop as expected, and can another person with the intended permissions see the controls they need?

If you are using an encoder, keep the stream key private and give it only to the person or tool that needs it. If a key is exposed, replace it through YouTube rather than leaving it in a shared document or chat. The channel’s ability to live stream and the security of the stream key are separate responsibilities.

A first test also gives you time to consider interruption handling. A 24/7 stream can stop because of a source-file problem, an encoder issue, an account restriction or a network failure. You can read about common failure patterns in the guide to unexpected ended streams, but first confirm that the channel itself is eligible and that the intended user has the right permissions.

For a local news loop or a devotional station, decide how often the content changes and who checks it. For a study channel, decide whether the stream should remain public overnight or use a schedule. These decisions affect the viewer experience after YouTube has granted access; they are not part of phone verification.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

Can a Brand Account manager verify the channel for live streaming?

Yes, YouTube says Brand Account owners and managers can verify a channel by phone. The manager must still select the correct Brand Account channel in YouTube Studio, because verification applies to the selected channel rather than automatically to every channel managed by the Google Account.

Why can’t I go live after phone verification?

Phone verification is one part of the process. The channel must also meet YouTube’s general live-streaming conditions, including having no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and YouTube may still be activating the relevant feature. Check the current eligibility message in Studio and confirm that you are on the intended channel.

Do I need 50 subscribers to live stream on YouTube?

The 50-subscriber requirement applies to mobile live streaming in the guidance described here. Do not automatically apply it to webcam, encoder or console streaming, which YouTube treats as separate methods.

How long does mobile live-streaming activation take?

YouTube says that first-time mobile live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available. Plan the verification and mobile activation before the event, and check the current official mobile requirements if the Studio status does not change.
