Super Chat is enabled in YouTube Studio under Earn > Supers, but the control only appears after your channel meets YouTube’s fan-funding requirements and accepts the applicable terms. Your individual livestream must also have live chat available and meet YouTube’s video-level rules.

For an always-on channel, treat replay planning as a separate job. Enabling Super Chat does not guarantee revenue or archive the broadcast, and YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.

Check channel eligibility first

Before looking for the Super Chat switch, confirm that your channel can use YouTube fan-funding features. YouTube’s current requirements include being in the YouTube Partner Programme, being at least 18 years old, and living in a location where Super Chat is available. The channel also needs to comply with YouTube’s monetisation policies and the relevant Commerce Product terms.

You can review the policy conditions in YouTube’s Commerce Products monetisation policies. Availability is not identical in every country, so a creator in India should check the current location list in YouTube’s own eligibility guidance rather than relying on an older tutorial.

The lower YPP entry tier can be relevant to fan-funding features. YouTube’s separate eligibility table lists 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days for that tier. Those figures do not guarantee that Super Chat will be available. YouTube still applies feature-specific rules, regional availability and channel review.

Do not confuse this with eligibility for advertising revenue. YouTube uses different thresholds for some advertising features, and meeting an advertising threshold is not the same as turning on Supers. If the Supers section is missing from Studio, treat that as an eligibility or account-status question first, not as a missing stream setting.

There can also be account-specific complications. If your channel is connected to a multi-channel network, check whether the network has a role in rights administration or terms acceptance. YouTube says the creator remains responsible for complying with applicable laws and policies. A channel that broadcasts devotional music, local news, coaching material or a business loop should also confirm that it has the necessary rights to the material it streams.

For the wider broadcast itself, do not buy equipment just to unlock Super Chat. YouTube presents encoder streaming as one option and says expensive equipment is not required to begin. Your production method matters for reliability, picture and sound, but it is not a substitute for channel eligibility.

Accept the applicable fan-funding terms

Once your channel is eligible, Studio may ask you to accept YouTube’s terms for fan-funding products. The current flow uses the Commerce Product Module, often shortened to CPM. If you previously accepted the Commerce Product Addendum, YouTube says you may not need to sign the replacement module again.

Read the terms before accepting them, particularly if more than one person manages the channel. The person who uploads the video, the person who operates the livestream and the person who handles payments may not be the same person. Make sure the channel owner understands which account is accepting the terms and where revenue reports will appear.

Super Chat is a paid message feature in live chat, not a general donation button. A viewer pays through YouTube to highlight a message, subject to the options and availability shown to that viewer. YouTube’s management guidance says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. That figure is not a promise of earnings, and it does not describe what a particular viewer will pay.

YouTube also allows Super Chat and Super Stickers to be moderated like other live-chat messages. Set expectations before you begin: decide who will watch the chat, what language or behaviour is unacceptable, and whether moderators should remove messages that breach your channel rules. A continuously running channel can receive messages while you are asleep, so moderation should not depend on someone remembering to check manually at a particular hour.

The relevant controls and reporting can change. Before publication or a major channel launch, check YouTube’s official Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility guidance for the country, channel type and account you are actually using.

Open Earn and find Supers in YouTube Studio

On a computer, open YouTube Studio and select Earn in the left-hand menu. Then open Supers and choose Get started. Follow the on-screen instructions, including the Commerce Product Module step if Studio presents it.

After the terms flow is complete, Studio should take you to the Supers controls. If you are using the Android YouTube Studio app, YouTube’s current instructions use Earn > Supers card > Get started or Turn on, followed by the same terms flow when Supers is being used for the first time.

The desktop route is usually easier when you are setting up an always-on channel because you may need to check several connected settings at once. Keep YouTube Studio open in one browser tab and the livestream’s settings in another. This reduces the chance of enabling the channel feature while leaving the individual broadcast with chat disabled.

If you cannot see Supers, work through these checks in order:

  • Confirm that you are signed into the channel that owns the broadcast, not a personal Google account with a different YouTube channel.
  • Check whether the channel has completed the relevant YPP and fan-funding review.
  • Look for an outstanding request to accept the Commerce Product Module.
  • Confirm that your country or region supports the feature.
  • Check whether a rights administrator or MCN controls part of the setup.
  • Review YouTube Studio notifications for policy, account or verification issues.

Do not assume that repeatedly refreshing the page will solve an eligibility problem. If the feature is unavailable, use the official Help links in Studio and compare the channel’s status with YouTube’s current requirements.

The Studio page is for the channel-level feature. It does not override restrictions on a particular video or live event. You still need to check the broadcast itself before you expect viewers to see a paid chat option.

Enable Super Chat

Inside Earn > Supers, turn on the Super Chat switch and save or confirm the change if Studio asks you to do so. Super Stickers have a separate switch. You can enable Super Chat without enabling Super Stickers, or enable both if the additional format suits your audience.

After enabling it, open the live event or scheduled stream you intend to use. Look at the viewer-facing chat area, not only the channel settings. Your aim is to confirm that live chat is available on that particular broadcast and that the Supers option is not hidden by another restriction.

For a devotional or bhajan channel, you might use a pinned message explaining that paid messages are optional and that ordinary chat remains available where enabled. For a study channel, you could explain whether paid messages will be answered during a lesson or reviewed later. For a local news loop, make clear that a highlighted message does not mean the channel has verified the claim in it.

Do not describe Super Chat as a guaranteed way to fund the channel. Viewer participation depends on the audience, the subject, the country, the payment method and the nature of the broadcast. YouTube’s stated revenue share also applies to revenue confirmed by Google after the deductions described in its guidance, not to an assumed gross amount.

Revenue information belongs in YouTube Analytics and related Studio reports. Keep your own records of the broadcast date, stream title and notable moderation decisions if the channel is operated by a small team. This will help you distinguish a setting problem from a quiet audience or a message that was removed.

If you are running the channel from a cloud-based service, check the YouTube-facing settings after the first connection rather than assuming that the service has enabled monetisation for you. StreamNeo is useful here when the specific problem is keeping the uploaded programme running without leaving your computer switched on, but Super Chat eligibility and settings still belong to YouTube.

Check live chat and video-level requirements

Turning on Super Chat at channel level is only one part of the setup. The live video must also be eligible. YouTube’s restrictions include several cases where Super Chat is unavailable:

Check What to verify Why it matters for an always-on channel
Live chat Live chat is enabled for the event and remains available Super Chat is a paid live-chat message, so it cannot work when the relevant chat is off
Audience setting The video is not marked Made for Kids YouTube says this setting disables live chat and Super Chat
Privacy The stream is not private or unlisted These settings can prevent the feature from being available to viewers in the normal way
Age restriction The video is not age-restricted Age-restricted content is among the video-level exclusions for Supers
Fundraiser status The stream is not a YouTube Giving fundraiser Fundraiser streams have separate treatment and are not eligible for Super Chat
Comments and chat controls Comments or live chat have not been disabled by a setting or restriction A channel-level switch cannot restore a disabled interaction layer

YouTube’s Super Chat setup instructions for computers are the best place to confirm the current control names. The exact Studio layout can change, but the sequence remains: establish eligibility, accept the terms, enable Supers, then check the live video.

Pay close attention to the audience setting. A channel that publishes children’s educational material may have a legitimate reason to mark a video Made for Kids, but that choice has consequences for chat and monetisation features. Do not change the setting merely to obtain Super Chat. Choose the audience designation that accurately describes the content and follow YouTube’s guidance.

Also check whether the event is genuinely live. A scheduled event that has not started, a finished broadcast and a private test can look similar from the operator’s side while offering different viewer controls. Run a short test with a second account if practical, and observe what an ordinary viewer can see without giving that account owner access to Studio.

Keep the test content simple. You do not need to wait for the main overnight broadcast to discover that chat is disabled. A short private or restricted test may not reproduce every viewer-facing condition, so use it to inspect the workflow rather than to claim that a future public stream is approved.

The content itself remains your responsibility. Super Chat does not change copyright rules, community guidelines, music licensing requirements or local obligations. If your always-on channel loops recorded sermons, music, news clips or classes, keep the rights and permissions for those materials separate from the Supers setup.

Plan separately for replays on long streams

An always-on channel has a replay problem that is easy to miss. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive limitation, not a stated time limit for Super Chat.

Therefore, do not conclude that a successful Super Chat setup means yesterday’s full broadcast will be available as a replay. A viewer may have been able to send a paid highlighted message during the live event while the resulting long stream is not preserved as a complete YouTube video.

If replays matter, make a separate recording plan. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup in its live-stream archiving guidance. A local recording can be made by the same computer or production system that supplies the broadcast, provided it has enough storage and is monitored. If your operating arrangement does not leave a computer running, decide where that recording will be made before launching the channel.

You can also make an editorial decision about segmentation. Instead of treating one broadcast as an endless programme, you might divide the schedule into distinct blocks so that individual sections are easier to replay and label. That does not guarantee that every stream will be captured, and YouTube’s current archive rules should still be checked before you choose a duration. The point is to separate the viewer experience from the assumption that one continuous event will become one reliable replay.

For a music or ambience station, write down the planned boundaries between blocks and keep the source playlist in order. The guide on streaming videos in order from a text file to YouTube is relevant if your production method uses a defined sequence. A podcast channel may need a different approach: looping podcast episodes on a YouTube live stream can help you think about episode boundaries, titles and repeat behaviour.

Keep Super Chat records separate from replay records. If a viewer asks a question through a paid message, save the message or note its time while the broadcast is live if you need to answer it later. The message may not be easy to locate in a replay if the long stream is not archived, and the chat history should not be treated as a substitute for a video backup.

Test the overnight operating plan

Before opening the channel to viewers, test the whole chain under the conditions you expect to run. Confirm that the scheduled or continuous broadcast reaches YouTube, that audio remains present, that chat is available and that the Supers control appears to viewers where it should. Then check what happens when the source file changes, the connection drops or the operator is not at the desk.

This is where many “Super Chat problems” turn out to be broadcast problems. A silent stream cannot support a useful chat experience, even if the channel is eligible. If your channel has intermittent audio, use the troubleshooting guide on why a 24/7 YouTube radio stream has no sound as a separate diagnostic reference.

Check the stream’s picture and sound without treating technical quality as a monetisation guarantee. Bitrate, encoding and audio continuity affect whether people stay and participate, but there is no official performance figure you should use to forecast Supers revenue. The bitrate guide for a 24/7 YouTube music radio stream can help with the production side, while the YouTube Supers settings remain a separate responsibility.

Create a small runbook for whoever watches the channel. It should include the Studio path, the account used to sign in, the chat moderation rules, the method for reporting a problem and the location of any local recording. Do not place the stream key in the runbook unless it is stored securely. A stream key can control where your broadcast goes, but it does not grant Super Chat eligibility.

Finally, check the official pages again when a policy, location list or Studio screen seems different. YouTube can change its terms, feature availability and controls. The YouTube Help page for managing Super Chat and Super Stickers explains moderation and revenue reporting, but your own Studio account remains the final place to verify which controls are available.

Before committing, compare the operating options on the pricing page. When the file and channel are ready, start free — 24-hour trial, no card.

FAQ

How do I turn on Super Chat in YouTube Studio?

Open YouTube Studio, choose Earn, select Supers, and choose Get started. Complete the Commerce Product Module flow if prompted, then turn on the Super Chat switch. The feature will still depend on the eligibility of the individual livestream.

Why can’t viewers send Super Chats on my livestream?

Check that the channel is eligible, the applicable terms have been accepted and live chat is enabled on that video. Also check whether the stream is Made for Kids, age-restricted, private, unlisted or a fundraiser, because these conditions can prevent Super Chat from being available.

Will YouTube archive a 24/7 livestream?

Do not rely on a complete replay for a continuous stream. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep a local recording or plan a suitable broadcast structure if the replay matters.

Does enabling Super Chat guarantee revenue?

No. Enabling the feature only makes paid highlighted messages available when the channel and livestream qualify. Viewer participation varies, and YouTube’s stated share applies to Supers revenue confirmed by Google after the deductions described in its guidance.
