For a 24/7 YouTube stream, choose settings for stability and delayed viewing rather than for conversation with viewers. In most cases that means normal latency, DVR enabled, automatic start and stop disabled, a public visibility setting, and carefully limited live chat.

Start with the broadcast type

YouTube Studio gives you several ways to create a live broadcast. You can start immediately from the Live Control Room, schedule a broadcast for later, or create a stream and reuse its settings. An always-on channel normally benefits from a stable, repeatable configuration rather than changing individual toggles every time.

For an uploaded devotional loop, study timer, local news visual or ambience video, the main question is whether the stream is meant to be watched from the beginning or joined at any point. A 24/7 broadcast is usually the second kind. Viewers arrive at different times, and many will leave the player open for long periods. The settings should therefore favour a smooth buffer, useful rewind and low maintenance.

Before changing anything, decide whether you are creating a scheduled event or maintaining a continuing stream. A scheduled event is useful for a launch, a countdown or a defined programme. A continuing stream is more suitable when the same channel should remain live while the content loops. DVR does not turn a live broadcast into a permanent on-demand archive. The amount of rewind available can depend on the broadcast and YouTube's processing. Auto-start and auto-stop are useful when an encoder or connected source is expected to begin and end at predictable times. They can also create confusion when a 24/7 stream should remain available while the source briefly reconnects.

Auto-start tells YouTube to begin the broadcast when it receives the incoming stream, rather than requiring you to press a separate start control. A short source interruption should not become an unnecessary end to the broadcast. If auto-stop is enabled and the source disappears, YouTube may treat that absence as the end of the event.
